i work in a DIY store and for some reason, when i take guttering components out of the bags they are packaged in, they smell identical. however, replacing fluffy dice for a soil pipe connector probably isnt a smart move

hmmm, but on a serious note, any ideas??

You will need something to eradicate the bacteria in the car first.

Not impossible with the right equipment ;)

Len's right - you'll really need to remove the smell(s) that have overpowered the smell of 'newness' in the first place :)

A decent shampoo/steam clean of the interior and carpets by a valeter should go quite a way to achieving that, ready for you to apply newness again! There are products available, e.g. you could always try this (once it's back in stock)

A good clean will get rid of most of it but not all.

What you need in an electrical device that removes the rest.

Will post details later, and it can even remove cigarette odour.

I'm intrigued! An 'electrical device' ?

When I used to work in a Lada/Proton dealers many moons ago we actually had to add the new car smell, the cars actually smelled horrible straight out the factory!!

We used to get big tubs of 'new car scent' crystals that we put in the ashtrays for a couple of days, and then removed just before the customer collected the car.

They infused the car with a leathery/plasticy scent. I've no idea where you'd get them these days though?

For an IT manager :)

Try Auto Glym carpet fresh or Halfords air freshner. Spray on the carpet, leave to dry for 15 mins then hoover.

I'm still wondering what this magical mythical electrical device is?

(a vacuum cleaner perhaps?)

I think it is a fog machine.

I almost bought one, as it is designed for cars but also works in rooms.

The liquid is anti-bacterial and you can get various flavours inc menthol and new car and iirc bubblegum :)

ive heard about the granules in the ashtray from many people in the motor trade, just wondering where you get them from?

Erm, it's toxic chemical smell from the plastic is it not? that's what I thought anyway!

One of these would get you off to a good start:

15507.attach

But the best option would be a 12v ozone generator - they do work!

Just don't sit in the car whilst doing it :)

Isn't that just 'Shake 'n' Vac' rebranded then?! :rubchin:
