Blown Turbo on VRS!?! Can anyone help please :(

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Basically I'll start with the background. The car is a 2005 Fabia vRS with Revo, Allard Power Pipe, Milltek and Powertec induction kit. Yesterday on the motorway the turbo was making a more metallic noise than normal for longer periods when spooling up and today there was a lack of power in 1st and 2nd gear until 3000rpm. 3rd gear onwards seemed to boost up as normal.

Anyway today I was moving off at the lights and heard a loud 'POP' Pulled to the side and opened the bonnet with the engine off. There was white ish smoke coming out of the induction kit and i thought I may have blown a hose off. So I started the engine again and it didn't want to idle, plus there was a lot of smoke from the back of the engine by the egr power pipe and the turbo.

So I'm guessing the turbo has blown after 26500 miles  I doubt Skoda will do it under warranty and it's the price you pay for modifying the car. But does anyone know what options I have open to me and how much it will cost?

Someone said I can get a turbo from Skoda at around

Hybrid will set you back about

There used be a lot of almost new PD units on German eBay. Might be worth considering if you don't want to go the hybrid route.

Check the intercooler hose first, they are known to blow and they display symptoms such as you have, nice cheap fix to replace, in fact D.I.Y............when they go, they go...Check first before investing in a new turbo as i would be inclined to think not turbo on a 2005 car, maybe..;)

Hi everyone,

The car is a 2005 Fabia vRS with Revo

 Not Celtic ???????????

Will Revo maps now be slated every time someone post's asking if they should have a Revo map ?????????????

Turbos are very prone to going..lol

And an intercooler pipe shouldnt emit white smoke, that dont sound clever.

Indeed they are, unless you have a Celtic map, then its Celtic's fault

Wow thanks for your quick replies. Lummox do you have any idea how much an turbo (fitted) from Skoda is?

I'm reluctant to think a pipe has blown off the intercooler as there was no white smoke from the exhaust, plus the turbo was making a long metallic noise when spooling up over a day or so.

As for a hybrid, I already have a Revo remap and don't want to spend more on another remap. Plus I think tuners find it difficult overwriting the Revo maps for some reason? So would a hybrid turbo just go straight on?

Thanks for any help and advice, am absolutely skint (bloody students eh :p) and looks like parents will have to fork out the bill :s I know it's going to be expensive, just hope its not a stupid amount.

I would think your looking at least

Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp! *goes to change underwear*

That's not good :(

Maybe Celtic had something to do with the designing of this particular map?

If prone to going i would not like to be the manufacturer, should be good for more than 25k, surely?

Thats true but the car has been modified so running more boost etc.

On another note, was looking at the Allard website and they have these two turbos:

Model

b.h.p.

New

output

New

exchange

VT1

206

To make best use of the new turbo you would be better to have a new remap. There are other places to get turbo's and you could look for a recon one.

Oh and shouldn't your sig now read -

FURBY VRS: cruise, xenons, ESP, heated seats, Revo, Eibachs, Koni FSDs, PD160 pipe, Jabba rear arb, Allard EGR pipe, Powertec induction kit, 17" Octy wheels, Milltek full system

ICE: Alpine 9835, Alpine changer, Alpine X-Type sub, Alpine MRDM1000 & MRFV340 amps, Alpine Remote Amp Controller, Boston Acoustics Pro60....

WANTED: Turbo!!!

:P

Celtic design maps for Revo

Somehow I think not.

An Allard VT2 will probably just bolt on and perform "ok" straight from the word go, but I would recommend getting a fresh remap. Allards will do a turbo in the post and it wouldn't take that long to swap over - All the parts are straight fit - manifold, exhaust, oil feeds, etc.

More importantly a VT2 will be stronger and more reliable too.

 How much commission are you on jason? If i were in the market for a new turbo that little paragraph would have made my decision easy and i would now be the proud the owner of a VT2, Good work

Well you learn something new each day ;)

As the rather knowledgeable Lummox says, Turbos can go pop at any time due to the nature of thier "precise" design... you cant really blame a particular mapping company for it, as remapping the car takes the turbo out of its comfort zone that VAG built into the design for the engine...

by contrast my revo powered turbo is still going strong at 92k miles.. and im sure someone....... somewhere will have got more than 5k out of a celtic map

I've got a turbo from Mr Shifty which I was gonna drop in my loft as a spare, if you are not going the hybrid route drop me a PM with an offer. I've not used it myself but it is believed to be in good working order.

What turbo is it WW?

Hey guys I've had three offers for second hand turbos that I'm grateful for. Still deciding what to do. Allard suggested the VT2 that I'm seriously considering, as Jason said too, it will handle the boost and the map easily. Skoda said

Think Camco88 Homepage in warrington might sell used turbo's.
