Pollen filter housing

Featured Replies

I have a leak through the pollen filter housing, can anyone please give instructions on how to remove and reseal. What can I reseal it with?. I have cleaned the plenum chamber bung under the battery but water still built up so I have decided to remove it. I can't get to the other one under servo but probably could from underneath. Is it alright to remove them and chuck em away. Hope I have removed the correct bung its about a 2" long rectangle. Please help. Also the carpet in the nearside footwell is slightly damp, how do I take this up to dry electronics and spray with WD40.

The pollen filter housing should be re sealed using sealing cord (available from any VAG dealer) after first disposing of the original (and woefully poor) foam seal.

The plenum bungs need to be clear, if water is still being retained in the bulkhead you will always have water leaks. Remove the bungs if required, cant see it hurting.

I would remove the n/s sill trim and a pillar trim and lift the carpet up to see the ammount of water that has got in. Open up the plastic box and check the central door locking ECU for corrosion and water damage. Also pay particular attention to the collection of connectors at the a pillar point especially the grey connector at the back, these ones always seem to corrode first and it plays havoc with oil level sensor and the bonnet switch wiring meaning the service intervals cn get messed up.

Lum,

Do you know if these water problems have been cured on later Superb models, or does it affect all inc the lastest 07 MY?

Num

Not sure if anything has been done in production or not. VW issued an active repair on the 3B Passat and all of them were done FOC. Personally if it was mine i'd be sealing it up. Prevention is better than cure. If anyone local to me wants it done give me a shout, we can knock up a how to for everyone.

I think that'd be great...

Please keep me/us posted; I bought a Superb Elegance 2.5 TDI yesterday and this is something I would like to avoid if I can.

I checked through my Pollen Filter housing, as now I have to park near trees which I hate.

I removed the drain bung rubber thingy under the battery tray, managed to pull that through from under the bulkhead, surprised myself!

Didnt know that there was one under the servo as well, how easy is that one to remove?

As for the pollen filter housing, I took mine out to take a look to see if had any signs of leaking (water marks / dirt etc). It is important to note (from my trial and error) The plastic 'gutter' that sits above the pollen filter, when this is removed, and the 3 nuts holding the filter housing in place, it does pull out. Dont forget to unclip a wire that runs along the front of the pollen filter - but this is easy.

Thats my two pence worth of info - I'm sure someone will put me right, or tell of an easier way.

Regards

SJ

Your correct SJ, but the problem is that foam seal. It cant handle the volume of water if a few leaves build up so a propper seal is needed to give the water time to drain away.

Yes I came across this inadequate foam stuff on the doors of my former SEAT Leon, caused me much misery! I seem to have done the prevention is better than cure approach. Used plenty of silcone (applied correctly of course).

Do you know the exact position of this second drain plenum under the servo?

I had this problem on my 2002 Superb last September and lost my interior lights, my local dealer managed to get Skoda (mostly due to having a full Skoda service history) to pay as it was over
