Reversing Lights and Rear Parking Sensors Failed

Featured Replies

Hi there,

We have found today that the rear parking sensors in our 04 reg TDi Elegance hatchback have stopped working. No beep on engaging reverse, and no beeping at all when reversing. And on investigation the reversing lights have also stopped working.

I have checked the fuse (10A at position 7) and that seems okay. I have also checked both reverse light bulbs and they seem okay too.

My conclusion (which could well be wrong of course) is that it is the reversing light switch that is faulty. Could this be the case? If so, how easy is this to change and where is it? I think I have found it but can't be sure ...

Thanks,

D. :)

I think reversing light switch would be my first port of call.

Easy enough to check.

Find your reverse light switch on top of the box at the front near the starter motor and bridge the two terminals out with a paper clip. Switch on the ignition, if the lights come on, bingo faulty switch.

Thanks guys - I'm loving this paper clip test. Does anyone have a photo of the location of this switch on the gear box (for a muppet like me?)

Thanks,

D.

Hello all!

This has just happened on my 54 plate Octavia vRS. I have checked the bulbs and the fuse and all seems fine so I'n guessing that it must be the switch. Armed with the Haynes Manual I went out to investigate but just couldn't get the grainy black and white photo to match up with the car! Should I be looking from underneath the car or is it visible from looking on top?

If it is the switch is it easy to replace and any idea of cost?

Many thanks!

Jon

The switch is more or less under the battery. The wiring to it is a bit short which sometimes results in it breaking, which could be the problem. I'll guess that a switch is around £20.

Great stuff - thanks!
