thanks for the replies...

I can't take it to the garage because it won't start.....especially not with the starter on the kitchen table! -

Lummox...it's odd you should say ignition switch because the spring return stopped returning and has to be manually switched back a click after starting her up....

I'll pop the starter back in - after I remove the broken stud!!!! and find a replacement - and then take a look at the ignition barrel....

does anyone know the wires to short at the barrel to start her?

many thanks

Not from memory, but having set up a hotwire to get a car mobile after a $crote smashed the ignition lock and bent the switch (so he didn't even get the car; just caused damage), I think it's pretty obvious when you get in there. Fixable connector from the centre post to the engine live, and touch a wire from the centre to the ignition terminal to spin the starter.

Okay, starter motor is back on now, and a dodgy sensor cable on the underside of the engine block fixed with a new plug and cable.........

I think the problem is the inhibitor switch at the back of the ignition barrel....BUT I CAN'T GET IT OFF!!!!!!!

so a couple of questions......

how do you remove it?

if I swap it for another will it effect the EMS or the immobilisor recognition?

is there a way I can short the switch out just to see if it is that?

frustratedly

 - If it's got an ignition immobiliser on the steering lock/ignition switch, that's probably where the fault is. Can you put a multimeter across it?
