Rubbing strips

Featured Replies

I've noticed recently that the black "rubbing strips" (is this the right term?) on my 2 1/2 yr old 4x4 are looking decidedly grey and tired.

1) Has anyone else found this to be a problem? (I notice that even the vRS is not colour coded - do these fade as well?)

2) What would you recommend? Anything in particular, or just a tin of Halford's "best black"?

Thanks

PS, I don't know whether this should be maintenance or styling.......

Peanut Butter (smooth type). The greying is caused by wax getting on them i assume ?

I kid you not !!

Just ask Mark (Wax Wizzard) ;)

Hmm maybe . I'm not the waxing type (too painful ;)), but I'll have a closer look - maybe the dealer / previous owner did it.

I just assumed that it was faded.

BTW: Which KW?

Back to Black from Halfords, reccommended.

Try any of the black shoe polish applicators with a sponge head. Works a treat and can be accurately applied, doesn't cost much.

One to put in the 'Top Tips' section I reckon.

Use peanut butter to clean then Autoglym Bumper Care to restore the finish. Works on my 4X4. :D

Autoglym Bumper Care get my vote - good for all external rubber and plastic - works well on bump strips and mud flaps and shuttle panel.

easy to apply and no need to wipe or buff afterwards.

grey marks on plastic parts can be limited to a great extent by chamying after washing rather than just letting them dry

No the vRS ones don't fade - i guess they must be a superior plastic ;)

 .........I,m sure they are Dave , but they still fade ..............I'd go along with Denis and use the peanut butter and the autoglym ...........and after you've done that , any extra peanut butter can be used for your sandwiches the next day :D

Stupid question but how do u apply the peanut butter? rub on and leave or just work it into the trim then rinse off?

Cheers
