Dunlop SP Sport 9000 OR Toyo Proxos T1-R's?

Featured Replies

My mind is swayed towards Dunlop. I've never heard of this particular tyre before, and was wondering has anyone tried them?

Dunlop SP Sport 9000

i've got 17" dunlop sport fm901's on the back worst tyre in the wet i've ever had...:thumbdwn: be putting them on front to wear down and then z3's back on...

Can't say that i have ever really herd glowing reports on the Dunlops. Brother had them on his 16V clio as said they were the worst tyres he's ever had on a car

Just fitted 4 toyo's on my octy 4x4, even though it's only been a few days they feel so much more grippy than the origanal Dunlops (sp 2000s I think).:D

Having read a few threads on here, am led to believe they will get better after a few more miles too.;)

Well. Dunlop seems to be favoured on here then! LOL

From all I read, from past experience - forget Dunlops :thumbdwn:

You'll find Toyos are marvellous rubber. I've got a set which are a vast improvement over previous Khumo rubber. You will find the compound probably softer than previous so they can wear quite quickly (down to tread limit indicators on front tyres after 1

had 2 on the front of my Fabia VRS for about 20k , as soon as i had them fitted the car pulled to the left :( , run them on the back for a Ring trip and track day at Oulton (Toyos on the front) seemed OK , grip OK overall but no great shakes , changed them due to excess inside edge wear , even though the tracking was ok

got Toyos all round now , excellent tyres:thumbup:

would the toyos have a better grip in the wet than Z 3's?

I'm not still shore about tyres. I'm forever hearing the sidewalls on the Toyo's aren't very good.

Any other tyre that could be recommended?

205/45/17

Not too many road tyres are very good on the "SHORE", the sand seems to cause a loss of grip...:P :D

For road tyres I went from Toyos to Falken 452's and cannot fault them.

Vredestein had a demo area at GTi International this year and were VERY impressive. The new Ultrac Sessanta tyre looks as if it might give the Toyos a run for the money.

See Link.

Toyo T1R's in my book every time, my 4x4 is excellent on them with over 300 bhp

For a price for Toyos or any other tyres try this link

If your main concern is grip try a set of Toyo R888's, truly awesome grip but you will be lucky to see 5000 miles from a set. Ive just completed 3200 miles with a set on the Furball, mostly driven "enthusiastically". The only time I had the traction control kicking in was when nailing it out of 1st gear harpin bends

I changed from Dunlops (what were there when I got the car) to T1-Rs, and don't regret it.

I've more wet and dry grip, what looks like decent life, and they're quieter on broken surfaces too.

One piece of advice is to run Toyos 2 or 3 PSI above the Skoda recommendations since the sidewalls seem quite flexible.

Another vote for the Falkens here too! Great grip wet and dry, lovely stiff sidewall and for all the punishment they've received, in 8k miles the fronts have only worn 2mm

Chris

Looks like the 452's are an emprovement over the 451's. Found the 451's to have a harsh ride due to the stiff tyre wall and fronts only lasted about 6K miles. But now I'm back to stock supension I may try them next on the fronts.

edit. dont do they in the furby size.

The standard Civic size is 205/45/17.

I'm presuming 215/40/17 will still fit? This is if I'm to go for the Falkens.

I had 451s and they were the worst pair of tyres I've ever had.

Proxes though, awesome. Neros are my favourites my a country mile though!

Yes, 215/40 would be fine Aaron.

mmmm :rubchin: , you sure about that?

If the standard tyre size is 205/45/17 then the best option woud be to stay with the same profile i.e. 215/45/17 I could be wrong but it's just my penneth worth.

Edit: This might help you Aaron, scroll down to about halfway there is a tyre calculator....................

IIRC, the profile is a %age of the width so the two tyres above have different sized tyre walls. This means as you increase the width, you decrease the %age profile to maintain the same height :D

Chris

Not by that small margin it won't, you'll end up with huge gaps around the wheelarch, nice! :P

Better to go with 225/40R17s if you're changing size, and they'll fit laterally.
