 TIME FOR TYRES ON THE FABIA ANYONE GOT ANY RECOMMANDATIONS

205/45 R16

Yoko Parada Spec-2

Toyo Proxes T1-R

Or ContiSportContact. Find them a bit noisy though, due to the open tread...

Contis = rubbish IMHO

Tried virtually all makes and everytime the ContiSport II's win. They may be a tad noisier but the difference is negligible. They win on contact, all weathers, and wear.

Just my opinion, others will have their views.

Thats what i'm gona go with when i need new ones.

contis= useless

Toyo T1-r or uniroyal rainsports or goodyear eagle F1's = best of the bunch

:D Makes you laugh don't it? Personally I don't trust anyone panning a tyre (or anything else) unless they recommend an alternative. (credit skudmissile)

I've only used three tyres on my vRS - the Michelin's as standard, Goodyear F1 GSD3's and Toyo Proxy T1-R's. The Michelin's gave great wear but were downright dangerous in wet/greasy conditions. I didn't know what 'grip' meant till the Goodyears - bloody amazing! But got 1 year/~10k out of a set. Just had the T1-R's fitted this week - they're probably not run in yet, but dry grip seems very good and wet grip well up there (with the F1's). At the moment I'd edge the F1's. On the back btw the original Michelins are still going strong (50k+)!. I'll probably change them due to perishing more than wear.

i would just like to point out , that there have been sooooooo many Fabia VRS "what tyre next threads" i just get soooooo bored of saying the same thing over and over again as to which tyres i would recommend ,Toyos being it

if people just used the search button , they would find all the threads

i've done Michelins , goodish all round tyre and long lasting

Dunlops , a bit better grip than the Michs , but poor wear patterns and pulling over concerns

Toyos , excellent tyre in the dry , reasonable in the wet

the reason i think Contis are rubbish IMO is that i've seen so many of them at work with cracked tread and uneven wear , plus they should be changed at 3mm (German legal limit) not the 1.6mm we can get away with

I agree I've read many threads, but I can't say as I've ever got a really cast iron opinion from any of them. Infact very few posts as descriptive as mine and yours Ric. I was racked with guilt and self-doubt when I got the F1's, and then amazed that there wasn't a sticky called "Get Goodyears F1's!" at the top of the forum!

Of course I know the whole thing is subjective, but I reckon enough people have used enough of the tyres available (specifically being able to compare at least two types) that there could be a definitive tyre thread with such wisdom as "Goodyear F1's - Great dry/wet grip ~10k wear" so that no searching is required.

Doing some searching I saw some mention of the Rainsport II's, but not enough comparison of dry grip/wear with the F1's/T1-R's to take the plunge (pardon the pun)...so they may be the best in the wet but god alone knows how they perform in the dry or over the course of a year

Bugger - don't think it was the post you were pointing to but "F1's grip like Toyo's but last longer" isn't making ME feel any better ;)

(edit: 6 laps of the 'ring? You are my god - I would love to go but having driven it on rFactor in a Caterham I'm convinced I'd get cocky and stuff into a wall. Make-believe only for me I think.)

Falken fk 452.. you cant get better for the price im pretty sure

Compared to? This is what I meant in my post. Opinion is worth nowt. Comparison is key.

Funny thing is I had the Michelins fitted to my last 2x BMW's and they were fine. Grippy, fairly hard wearing, quiet etc but they were on a fatter profile and on a car with totally different dynamics - near 50/50 weight distribution. On the Furby they're frightening. Just too slippery by a long way.

The Avons on the front are not bad though, just a bit noisy for my liking. Wet weather grip could be slightly better too but otherwise not a bad all rounder. Not sure on cost as they were already on the car when I got it.

Next time round I'll be going for Uniroyal Rainsports I think. Heard good things about them and they're well priced.

I think my next set ill try the new toyo tyres (4's i think).

I really like the uniroyals, they are so bloody good in the wet and its always raining here. I think the only problem i have with them is they give a little bit more road noise but i think i can live with that for the time being.

Ive just put a set of Toyo t1-r's on the golf and they are really nice tyres. Smooth quite ride (well i cant hear them over the noise of the carbs on full chat :D)

Dry grip is exellent, probably feel better on the golf than the vrs as its much lighter and on coilovers. Wet grip is as good as the uniroyals if not better.

the toyo's suite the heavey vrs more than the F1's as i have found the side walls too spongy on the goodyear f1's and the side walls on the toyos a little stiffer.

uniroyal rainsports = shockingly sh!te.....may as well put racing slicks on.

It will always be down to personal opinion, for me its the ContiSport 2's. Had them on my vRS since it was new nearly 3 years ago, rear almost full tread, front approx 4 mm AND I punish the car regulary. The comment made in an earlier post re Conti's cracking etc must have been sold a dodgy set.

Like I say, you go with what you want, this is one topic we'll all never agree on.

Compared to (in no particular order)

1) Michelin Pilot Sports

2) Michelin Pilot Primacy

3) Conti SC 1

4) Conti SC 2

5) Pirelli PZero Rosso

6) Bridgestone PP SO2

7) Bridgestone PP SO3

8) Toyo Proxy T1-R

9) Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3

HTH :D

Of that list I would never consider running Conti's ever again - shockingly bad! And the Pilot Primacy's were pretty bad too...

Chris

Conti's are bad...

I think that the FK 452 would perform seriously good on a car like fabia against these other tires.. they're the most circular tires around now.. Very well balanced over all and very quiet... I only tried falkens on my car so i cant really compare them to michelins but from the reviews i read the FK452 are high rated tires.. there are ppl who changed from michelins to falkens n very happy...

See my post. I'm currently running Falken 452's and they (mvho) are better than all the tyres I listed ;)

really love them.. at the price you pay they're just amazing and i dont think that any other tires would do as good in the hot weather in dubai as the FK452s.. i had the 451 in a wider size and the 452s are a HUGE improvment.. used to get a lot of understeer with the 451s but with the new ones theres a really nice balance between the front and rear end of the car.. im driving them hard all the time and they still perform almost as good as the day i got them:thumbup:

Anyone tried Falken ZE512's? Got given an awesome price (IMO) on them...

I need some too ... anyone tried the Vredestein Sportrac 2 or 3 ?

I had the Sportrac 2 on my beemer and they were pretty good all round

I suspect that RWD vs FWD makes a big difference - a tyre that is good for one can be c**p on the other.

Does the front end heaviness of the vRS make any odds ?

I have seen loads of cracked sidewalls on the contis in the past.

What are you doing to make the rainsports sh!te? They are by far the best tyre i have ever had for wet weather performance. They just give off a little noise and are not as good as the likes of the t1-r and F1 tyres in dry conditions. Id say they are a perfect tyre for the uk........Its always bloody raining.:thumbdwn:

I agree with you on the fact that people go with what they want, and everyone is entittled to their own opinion.
