Air con

Featured Replies

My air con dosent seem to get cold very quickley, its like just having the blower on full in car without air con :thumbdwn: .

Has anyone else had theres re-gased and if so was it covered under warrty?

Is this all that it colud be?

I have checked under the bonnet for the pipes and ther dosent seem to be any condensation on them like i would of throught?

Any ideas......

The car is only 2 and a half years old, will i have to get it re-gaed every 2-3yrs?

It does take about 10 or 15 seconds for the fridge cold air to start to come out - you're not getting any fridge cold air coming at all? I've heard stories about having to use the air-con over the winter on a regular basis to keep the system fresh... so maybe if you haven't used it over the winter at all, it's having a little moan? Not sure to be honest.

yep thats right no fridge cold air at all :thumbdwn:

Air con bin used all the time as my family is warm blooded and dont feel the cold that much :D

Gona take it in next week i think and see what they say, Just hope it is covered on warrenty

Sounds possibly like a problem with compressor - I'd expect gas deterioration to be fairly gradual.

Have you checked the fusebox in case the aircon fuse has gone?

When you have the car idling, do the revs increase when you turn the aircon on, and drop when you turn it off?

Noy checked the fuse will go out and have a look, never throught of the easy bits first :D

not too sure about the increse in revs but it does make a right good thud when i turn it on

it seem to stay at between 700 and 1000 idle revs

Hiya mate... Hows the new tyres??

Just a point ... The 'fridge' stops working below about 5 degrees C...

( to stop the compressor getting damaged )... So I would check external

temp before making any judgements

Its been mentioned before but I would set the temp to LO on the panel and switch between ECON and AUTO there should be a change in engine revs

only for a second as there air-con compressor kicks in/out...

Other than that have you had the Climate on AUTO all winter??? If you have then there could be a problem with refridgerant leaking or the compressor faulty...

Cheers

Dazz

hi all

you need to use aircon on a reguler basis, keeps all joints from drying out as refrigerant carries oil round system.can leak out if not used for some time.

should not cost more than

hiya dazz, not fitted the tyres yet, enjoying knackering up the old ones first :D:thumbup: , lots of tyre spin.....

Yes it has been left on AUTO all winter, and know that its a bit warmer want some cold air :D ,.

Will the re-gas not be covered by the warenty?

If not

The Octavia Owner's Manual advises that:

'If there is a drop in the cooling capacity, switch off the Climatronic system and have it tested.'

There is no mention in the service schedule of the aircon system needing regular attention, but my local car aircon specialist - who is used by many main dealers to sort out aircon systems - advised me when I had problems with my Senator's aircon that car systems should pressure tested and refilled with gas every 2 years.

refrigerant does not degrade and if system integrity is ok will last a lifetime, aircon is my main job for last 28 years

That's good to hear and perhaps explains the lack of mention in the service schedule.

A question for you. How do you know if there is enough refrigerant in the system without emptying the system and weighing what you have taken out? Or is it simply a matter of measuring the pressure in the system?

Thats about it in a nutshell being a sealed system theres no reason to tinker sometimes there is a sight glass in the pipework.if theres visible bubbles then further investigation may be needed. To be honest heve not checked octy for this

Probably a leak of refridgerant, and seeing as its running with R134a, it doesnt suprise me.

Either take it to a dealer amd let them sort it (dont forget they can diagnose it via the climate control panel as they probaly wont put gauges on it) or take it to a specialist aircon company.

Either way, it shouldnt be hard or expensive to fix. However they do take a large amount of gas , much more than I would have thought for such a small system.
