225x45x17's seem popular. I have these on my track wheels.

Most octy vrs owners have gone for 225 45 17 fitment, apart from them being cheaper there is more range to choose from.....my personal favourite is the Goodyear F1, it is quiet and oh so sticky....check my previous posts, and if local give me a PM for prices:rolleyes: :D

well i've stuck to the standard size and gone for Bridgestone SO3's,have them on my Corrado VR6 and they are great on that and they feel good on the Octy vRS.

expensive i have to admit,

I went for 225/45/17s on me Octy RS, Toyos Proxes T1-s. Not as expensive as the Pirelli P-Zeros and Goodyear Eagles that most people favour, excellent grip and handling characteristics. They probably aren't quite as good as the Eagles (more grip, less durable) or the P-Zeros (more grip, much more expensive) Have a look on on www.mytyres.net they were

i went for 225/45 Yokohama AVS Sport. I was told by demon Tweeks that Eagle F1's won't last a month on an Octy RS and they advised the Yokos. Had them on two months now, very very good is all i can say. Plenty of grip in the dry and pretty dam good in the wet. Bit noisy though.

they are noisey because the treads so hard....F1`s are quiet in comparison because they are softer compound....depends whether you want grip over wear, i am in the tyre game and personally the F1 or mich; pilot sport are the best tyres on the market (imho) you pay your money you make your own choice...

Now, I don't like the Pilot Sports. I found them very hard compound and I didn't like their breakaway performance, yes they last a long time, but I found that their grip levels weren't up with either the Pirellis or the Goodyears in the dry and were quite a bit worse in the wet Oh and they are shed loads more. I'm also not a fan of directional tyres on FWD cars. I think they're great on RWD or 4x4 but not so good on FWD, IMHO.

p zero corsa.

game over.

:D

Agreed :D

Whispers "Continentals" and runs away

Surely road legal slicks don't count? ;)

But I guess "road legal" means they do.:D

Adrian, they are E marked and ergo are acceptable on the road. However at

i got 8k out of a set... and im very careful.....

anyone using 215/40?

you've all talked about every other tyre make except Bridgestones,

have any of you tried them before or had bad experience with them?

on my Corrado VR6 they are great, loads of grip good in the wet.

on the Octy they are a revelation compared to the standard ditch finders!!!!!

i like them after having the use of a TVR Chimera for a summer, don't last long on a TVR though!

So2s are now but a distant memory :(

I'm running Goodyear F1 GSD3's-225/45/17's on my Octavia vRS. I don't think the tyre size has made any difference over the standard fitment size in terms of performance. After all, the overall diameter is the same and the tyre width has only increased by 10mm. I was running on Continentals and I don't think there is much to choose between them and the Goodyears. The Goodyears grip very well and give great feedback. My only criticism is that the Goodyears aren't quite as stable as the Conti's, I wonder if the sidewalls on the Conti's were perhaps a little stiffer? As for price. I would definately reccomend www.mytyres.net,

Yep, GSD3s have soft sidewalls. I prefer the Contis

 try nitrogen..........

Already run it :D

I have 16" alloys on my vRS. The tyres are 205/55/16.

Should I go for the same size again, or will the rims take 225/50/16's ?

Anyone ?

And which are better in terms of road noise and wear - Brigestone RE720's or the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 ?

thx

If they are 7s then yes, 6.5 and they may be bowed too much

ETKA lists the 16" alloys for the RS as being 6.5J. So what tyres and size are you looking at for your 16" alloys next, Jon? (PS Slicks don't count)

I have 205/55 16 91W P Zero Neros on it. The transformation from the standard tyres (which I hated) is just awesome! The car actually grips and handles now :D
