It's a writeoff :(

Featured Replies

Roughly 9k damage.

Mainly as I tried to avoid hitting the other car too hard, I've managed to hit the central reservation during my RTA on the 3rd of August.

The body shell is bent, suspension damage, tons of panels etc.

So I suppose the insurance comp will be in touch. I sincerely hope I can get to the vehicle somehow to remove stuff, I'm not in the slightest happy right now :(

Not helped by not being in the UK.

Ah well, suppose I'll have to buy a 2nd hand Matiz :(

*ouch* :(

At least your alive mate, Car did its job, All the best with recovering bits

Damn bad luck :thumbdwn:

Sorry to hear - must be nightmare, too, negotiating / checking from another country (you did say so - just commiserating).

Even more fun when the insurer looses your car for a week as well

This is gonna be a complete pain - will have to call the insurance again and work out what to do, if they let me buy it back then I can strip it out and see if I can pick up a second hand one perhaps, otherwise the nightmare will just continue :(

Oh dear WW. Really sorry to hear it fella. Would be such a shame if you couldn't get it back on the road... :(

Maybe buy it back and repair it with the insurance cheque?

Based on the type of damage I doubt that will happen :( - with the bodyshell being damaged things look pretty bad.

Only reason to consider buying it back is to remove all the stuff that's removable and still in good order, but it all depends on the valuation I get, and/or options I get given by the insurance valuation person.

Will get a call from insurance in a couple of days, the body shop has just sent the paperwork through, stating about 9k damage. So IF I were to go for the self-repair option, I'd get that done to 7k. Still no good really :(

9k's worth of damage? I'm impressed! ;) If you don't have the option of stripping bits off the car, I guess you should be able to negotiate with them over the settlement figure by saying to get the same would cost

Completely gutted for you matey. Hope you figure out how to get it best sorted. The car must have had a hex on it, tbh...

Good thing you're a tough guy who thinks fast on his feet, you'll get through this, no fear..

Cheers

Will just have to see what kinda offers they make, all mods are fully declared etc so no problems there, just have to see what they come up with...

If it is a C/D you should be able to buy it back without too much issue.

Remember you own the car still so don't hand over ownership until you are happy.

A cat B you can still buy back but you would have to come to a binding agreement to have the car scrapped after you had taken spares.

Good luck, and if they don't play ball remember to use the ombudsman card if you think you have a good case.

If you get a good price and can strip the wreck then I guess you can either use the parts on another VRS and sell the stock parts, or sell the parts and fund a different car. Anything has to be better than a matiz :P

Yep... ;)

Anything has to be better than a matiz :P

For sure!

All the best mate, hope you get everything sorted out. Did you get anything back regarding the brakes/cause of the accident, or have I missed a post on it?

No news yet, the officer in charge should be back on Tuesday, will chase up again then :)

If its a cat D it will be easy to repair, Cat C is a whole new ball game its still repairable but requires a lot more work & more stringent checks when you try & put it back on the road. Dont be phased by the bodyshell being twisted, if its not bad a good bodyshop with the proper jig can sort that, at only 9k damage Im guessing the shell is fixable, if it were a re shell the damage bill would be a lot more.

For Panels you can get s/hand & with the number of water damaged write offs hitting the breakers you should be able to source most of them fairly easily. If you go that route get a quote from a bodyshop to do all the work including sourcing the bits. Thats the worst case scenario. This figure should also offer you a big saving to make it worth doing, your repaired car will only be worth 75% of book when you come to sell it so remember that. If it all stacks then you can save even more by sourcing the bits yourself. I would also allow 2-3 months as a worse case time scale

Skospares are very good & will also give you rough costs over the phone for parts they dont have, I found them to be accurate or above what I paid elsewhere & the parts they supplied were all good quality.

You should pay about 25% of the valuation for the wreck although certain companies now wont sell them back, your car will be in reosnable demand as there are a lot of perfectly straight cars in the wreckers that have been flooded & just need an Engine, Turbo etc, & thats another thought, buy a flooded one, swap the mechanicals over , break yours & sell the bits on flea bay, it might just stack up

What a bummer.

WW give me a shout if you need a hand removing bits off your car, im only around the corner. just tell the insurers you want to remove your radio and get your personal affects out of the vehicle (and then nab all bits that are not glued down) if you have an old battery then swap it with the one in your car and same with any of the other bits ;)

I'll volunteer some hours labour, if I can have the seats at a bargain price. :D;)

Bloody hell! That's two vRS's on here written off in the same month.

Hope you get things sorted mate.

Got my settlement cheque within two weeks.

if you need a hand i could also probably help mate, not far either :D

It will be amazing what a group of 6 or so people can get out / off a car in a few hours. ;) I certainly have my fair share of experience of ripping apart fabias, so willing to help out when I can.

its also amazing what you can gat off a car in limited time when you don't care about damaing bits your leaving :D

And I bet if you towed it to an estate, gave a few kids a quid or two, they'd out do the lot of you in record time :thumbdwn:

Such a shame mate, I think yours was one of the nicest oem+ black fabias around.

Hope everything goes to plan from now on though
