I'm hoping to be in a vRS soon. LV have quoted

To me, engine modifications is just that, anythgin that modifies the engine... however, most folks here who are Jabba's have explained this to LV and they are cool about it.

With a title London Victoria, I thought it was going to be a moan about the U.K's transport infrastucture

That's the point, it's not an engine modification, its a modification to an ancilliary device, ie the ECU ;)

Would be interesting to see LV's attitude towards cylinder head work, camshafts, uprated internals etc etc etc.

Geoff, you'll be surprised... some insurance co's didn't want to quote when I mentioned the DV  Muppets...

LV (that's Liverpool Victoria) do want to know about engine modifications (including chipping/remapping), but unless you are actually changing the engine capacity it won't have any effect on your premium.

They aren't interested in brake/suspension/bodywork mods.

Q, i know your pain, i was with Elephant previously :grumpy:

Geoff, I haven't even mentioned the pain I sometimes feel in my backside... oooh, there she is again ;)

Not to mention the pain in your neck... ;)

Apologies for the wrong name. Now I know why I couldn't find their website earlier in the week. What a wally!

Thanks to all

Jabbaing is a re map to the car, basically they re programme the cars electronic brain to give you more performance, usually in the 225-230 bhp bracked with loads of torque. Dont worry about the strength of the engine as these little babies can run 350 horses on stock internals but that means a lot more work to the car, bigger turbo etc etc.

If you are planning to change exhausts, dump valves etc get that done before you get the car to Jabba. The cars are individually mapped on a rolling road so that way you can take full advantage of any other mods. If the cars new this will also allow you to get a few miles on it before its mapped, the engine will then be a little looser.

Just to confuse you all, I fixed the thread title.

Echo what everyone has said so far.

The purchase fell through, in the end. I had the car inspected by a national provider who considered the car was in acceptable to good condition rather than the immaculate that the vendor suggested.

The car had been painted at some point which the vendor didn't know anything about. The inspection suggested further checks i.e. wheel alignment check and suspension check. Given that plus the paint and a couple of other factors that were niggling away at me, I decided not to go any further.

Vendor was OK and dropped the price considerabley but I explained I wasn't buying on price but on condition.

What does worry me about the whole episode is that the car was sold through the Skoda Approvsed Scheme not that long ago. I think this just goes to show that no matter who is selling the car, still get it independently inspected.

Thanks for all help/guidance.
