VRS 170 PD Re Map

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a Re Map for the 170 PD engine and if so what kind of figures are you seeing ?

Have a search for superchips on here and you'll find details of one members efforts.

Didn't the lad from the JKM day use an ottenger remap, or did he go for superchips in the end?

Assuming this is the Mk2 Octy VRS you have a diesel particle filter which on other cars can cause major hickups, it catches all the soot & then burns it off, thats why the car wont smoke. However if remapped odds are you will be pumping more fuel in when hoofing it which creates more soot which can cause problems with the filter.

make sure whoever you use has mapped these cars before & that the cars have done a few thousand miles without problems. This part of chipping is all new technology as DPF's have only been around for a couple of years & a few people are having problems

Try the DERV Doctor they list a remap but it only puts out about 180-185 BHP apparently the turbo on the 2.0 TDI is a bit weak so they can upgrade that for you too ;-))

Superchips was the one that was at JKM.

Superchipped to 204 bhp and 319 lbft map.

Although on the JKM day it made 201 BHP=204 PS and 312 lbft. But it had only done 1,200 miles - so should hopefully loosen up over time and gain the few horses and torques it was missing.

I have had no issue with DPF and I drive it like a loon (max acceleration and dropped clutches = lots of fuel spikes).

Re-map in place for 1,600 miles now (2,700 total mileage).

If you drive it like a loon its running hot, thats the best way to keep the dpf clear, the slower you drive the more likely you are to get problems. If you do sustained heavy town traffic driving thats the most likely time it will fail

Ha - reminds me of a Ferrari technician I knew who told me that they recommended all the owners to do that as it kept the engine clean..........

"Honest officer, I was only driving the car as recommended by the owners manual"

But you still got overtaken on the A3 by a 2.0i Fabia ;):D

Glad it's still going well

Yeah but everyone knows that the 2.0l Fabia is unbeatable Mike!!!

I'd love to have an idea of the in gear acceleration times for the chipped version of this engine, or even better, before & after.

Obviously this is where the diesel excels, maybe 30-50 in 4th, 50-70 in 5th &

30 -70 through the gears like they used to do in roadtests in the good old days.

Anyone game?

The diesel would only excel if it's counterpart didn't have diesel like torque and the rev range to keep going when the oil burner ran out of puff :P ;)

Perhaps we could compares some petrol times as well, I'm sure that wouldn't prove controversial!!

Ah .. but I just drove 41 miles at an average 54.3 mpg

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!!!

(PS my PD170 only had a stage one remap, I'm sure you FSI-T guys are running more involved stuff than software alone)

Not quite as high but still pretty impressive -

You must have either been followed by the 'boys in blue' in a 30 zone or were tailing a caravan with nowhere to overtake ;)

43.5mpg ??? That's almost something to be ashamed of in a sporty motor!!!

It was a 80 or so mile journey mixture of A and B roads as well a motorway and not especially hanging around.

It's not uncomon to get high thirties on a journey.

Stage 1 and no other mods will still give upwards of 300lbft of torque.

8000 miles and average is 29 mpg. I'm beginning to think my wife may be right, I drive too fast.

'No be sensible it's not loosened up yet, you'll get more as the mileage increases.'

Oh well now I'll have to carry on driving like I have been to see if that proves to be true.

(Excuse my late post gents but I can now print the above, minus this comment. as proof of what I have been telling my dear lady) ;)

Mine does seem to be getting better as the miles pass. It might also be to do with the assistance on the air intake side. Given the current power output I think anything over 35 is very respectable.

Re the 170PD power upgrade, why not take advantage of the Superchips free 7 day trial period they offer on the Bluefin?

Just a thought....

ATB, Jon.
