Kia Picanto/Hyundai Getz

Featured Replies

Since these two share a lot of their underpinnings, does anyone know if the 1.4 from the Getz would fit in a picanto?

Surely its not worth any bodys time & efford in making such modifications especially as both have 5 year warrenties.

Depends, if you can buy a picanto from a breakers with a knackered engine for almost nothing and could get a decent engine from a written off getz for the right price.

The 1.4 can be turbocharged and the picanto weighs nothing. You can also charge cool the 1.1 and 1.0, but a 1.4 might be fun :)

Decent suspension, the brakes are already disks so shouldn't require too much work and there is no esp. Would make a fine and very cheap track day car..

Obviously all done DIY in spare time as a random project for a bit of fun.

The Picanto is Based on Hyundai's older Atoz wheras the Getz has a new and larger chassis so they share no underpinnings, apart from the 1.1 lump. As I have come to learn, don't bother and save for something decent. If you are desperate for a cheap thrill or track day car, may I reccomend an Omega 3.2MV6, can be had for as little as 2.5k for a 53 plate:D

Can pick up earlier, older, 2.5 V6 Omegas for under 1k, in a good enough state for trak bashing...

I do feel sorry for whoever bought them in the first place, but the depreciation when buying used is just fantastic! You can get big signums for £6,995:eek:

Thing with the picanto is it's wheels are in the corners and it weighs nothing :)

I was told by a dealer it shared with the Getz, hence wondering... Hmm another plan it is then.

I am still pretty sure it's based on the old Atoz, but as said the cheecky little 1.1 which I adore:D is shared. If it does share underpinnings though I warn that the Getz's underpinnings are somewhat fragile though. The brakes, suspension and mountings will not tolerate "Heavy Duty Driving":D

OMG get a life.

OMG get a :bike:.

My thoughts exactly!

Funny, yet cruel. :nono:

Ok the reason I was thinking of this is light as hell car and cheap as anything to get the parts etc...

There are other options including say a 205, 306, clio etc.

I was just thinking take the kia, strip it right back to the shell and then put in a drivers seat, decent engine, suspension and brakes on it

The curiosity was sparked mainly because I got chatting to a breaker who has one with a shagged engine, thought hmm 120+ bhp in a picanto would be fairly quick and handle well if you could sort the brakes and suspension. The 1.4 engine from the getz is 125bhp and apparently can be turbocharged, which would make a completely insane car. It wouldn't ever be road legal and purely a track car.

Doubt I'd actually do it.

I'm for the foot power...

Why not just add a more powerful engine such as a food mixer, then crush it in to the ground.

The beauty of this is that it will add several hundred pounds of improvement:P

There must be better options such as buying a car......sorry

Prove me wrong and make a Kia look good

If it helps in your project, the 2.0 Engine from the Hyundai Coupe Bolts into the Getz with minimal modification to engine mountings, though a new clutch or torque converter and a flywheel is needed,

I Found out though, the Picanto is not based on the Atoz, my mistake. It is infact based on a Getz chassis, but it is shortened so it's not identical so to speak

The 2.0 is also turbo-able,

Just buy a 1.6 205, strip it, and enjoy :)
