Perfect replacement for a MK1 vRS?

Featured Replies

The reasons I bought a mk1 are:

  • Performance (obviously)
  • space, including boot space as there are four of us
  • economy and running costs (which I think are resonable for the given performance)
  • reliabilty
  • value for money

Now I think that most owners won't argue with any of that.

I have just noticed the 1.8 TFSI Octavia! On Skodas website, I am quite impressed with the specification and I think it makes a better value buy than the new vRS

It beats the mk1 vRS on

  • space, boot and rear legroom
  • economy and running costs, only group 12 insurance, group E road tax and better mpg in all circumstances.
  • reliablity should be the same
  • value for money? Wasn't the mk1 vRS £15,000 when it was launched?
  • performance is similar 0-60 8.2 secs for the estate, top speed is down by 8mph but seeing that the fastest I have been in my mk1 is 110mph (on a private road) you will see why that doesn't really concern me.

Are there any owners out there who own one? I would be interested in a TFSI Ambient estate with Maxi Dot, black paint, and 17" wheels with sports suspension.

alternative is the TFSI Sport Estate in black.

I would be interested in other owners opinions.

Still pretty new out, not even sure I recall an owner reporting here with one.

I hope to have a test drive when my dealer gets one in.

Whats the figures on it ?

get a VRs :)

Looks pretty good to me! Lighter than a mk1 too.

Seems comparable on paper to a MK1 but it would have to be a lot cheaper than a VRS MK2 to make it an option for me........ around £4k cheaper. That said, I'd always have a problem knowing that its not quite the top model though - which would probably have me in a 2nd hand VRS instead if the 1.8 was purely the car of choice based on a money decision.

Look at it like that, make mine a new Audi RS6! I dont think I would be driving my Skoda (as much as I love it) if I had too much money!

 - I see your point! I'll have an RS6 too then.

Its a sad way of thinking but unfortunately thats how I think about cars - irrationally!:D

Don't get me wrong though - its like the Golfs with the GT model - if I bought one new, I'd always wish it were a GTi. If I spent the same money on the GTi but 2nd hand, then I wouldn't be wishing it was brand new. It seems that this model of Octy is the "GT" model in my example if you get my meaning - albeit a perfectly good car in its own right.

The 1.8T looks to be a bit of a gem. Wouldn't mind a drive of one... :)

If they do it in 4x4, then that would be wicked.

s3akr!

Only joking! A brand new RS4 Avant pulled up next to me at the lights today in metallic grey, absolutley drop dead gorgeous! (bit small for me though!)

If I'm having my arm twisted I could go RS4 but only if I really had to!

I am not so sure about the golf GT, a supercharger and a turbo charger! Great idea though. I have seen more golf GTs on the road than I have GTi s! considering how long they have been out.

I do think the Octavia 1.8 TFSI will sell extremely well as its not much more expensive than the 1.6 FSI, however makes you wonder where the 2.0 FSI fits in now? (150 bhp)

The 1.8TFSI is replacing the 2.0FSI

Is that a guess or is that for sure?

I have just had another thought too, takes the wind (and value) out of mk1 vRS cars, they will have to fight bloody hard to beat a new 1.8 TFSI!

I won't stake my life on it but i've read about it several times.

The TFSI will be better on fuel consumption and emissions thanks to the turbo.

There is no logic to having a 2.0FSI 150BHP and a 1.8TFSI 160BHP side by side in the range.

The 1.4TSI will be replacing some older engines thanks to it's various power outputs. (140 and 170BHP at the moment IIRC). It's mostly emissions driven.

The VAG engine range is quite busy at the moment :D

Would the 1.8tsfi be a possible in the new fabia vrs

oooo, yes please!

Could be along with the PD140. Or maybe the TSI 140

The one-eight would be a nice choice IMO

Does anyone know if the new 1.8 TFSI is a development of the old 1781cc engine as fitted to the mk1? Or is it a brand new unit?

The performance in a Fabia would be great! Especially if that torque figure is correct? 250nm?

My God the pleasure of owning a new car is brief! I havn't had my mk1 for 3 years yet, (which still makes it the newest car I have owned) and here I am being seduced by newer models! I have only done 13,000 miles! I don't really think that I have much of an excuse to change yet!

Do you know if it comes with a 5 or 6 speed gearbox as standard?

6 Speed

Interesting that on Skoda's "official" price list, the 1.8T is only about £100 more than the equivalent model 2.0FSI. I wonder if they have gotten rid of some of the other Mk.2 bugs though, like noisy door seals!!! If so, I could be looking at a trade in. But I reckon the bodywork will be the same as the 2.0 ?

its looks good on paper but think about resale value if your not going to keep it for that long.

Im sure that the extra you will pay for a vRS will be a worth while cost when it comes to sell it
