Rs4

Featured Replies

Oh my God a friend has just bought a year old Audi RS4 saloon carbon colour.

In the flesh it looks amazing and those seats are really good. The build quality is stunning and the noise is amazing.

He has opted out of his comp car and taken the cash (and added some personal cash towards it too). He didnt let on what price he paid for it (yet).

So far 2 weeks he has averaged 30mpg, and he is well known for not hanging about Worst he has had is 15mpg round town and best mid to high 30's. He uses the brim to brim method.

What's he after, a medal?

Whats the point of this thread?

My dad bought a volvo xc90 he averages 18mpg wooopy fooking do!

How much is his insurance and is it cheaper than what you would pay on a Fabia vRS? Surely RS4s are not driven by a bunch of hooligans in hoodies and so are much easier on the pocket than the poor little Fabia.

Or didn't you want to waste any of your valuable time to find out :P

Is it faster than a Fiat Coupe Turbo? Or a third-hand 530d for that matter? If not, why did he bother?

  • Author

ok 1 question at a time;

1 -is it faster than a 231bhp 330d M sport, no this was tested side by side.

2 - no idea why the is it better than a 3rd hand 530D? 3rd hand could be only a month old or 8 years old - clarify the question.

3 - is it faster than a std Fiat coupe - Yes it has 414bhp a Fiat coupe has 220bhp. RS4 does 0-100mph in just over 10 seconds a Fiat coupe does it in 14 seconds

4 - so its faster than the 231bhp 330d and Fiat coupe 20v Turbo so clearly worth bothering with

5 - He wasnt in the market for neither a Diesel or a Fiat coupe20vt.

6 - No idea about the insurance he pays but as the 996 Turbo Porche quotes me for £450 this RS4 quotes for just over £400. vRS was £210 but then jumped up to £310.

7 - whats the point of this thread? Its the in the general car discussion.

8 - Volvo XC90 is not a competitor to the RS4 - why add this to the thread its off topic.

You're having a giraffe.

You are great you are.

For someone as busy as yourself, you seem to spend alot of times visiting a forum for a car you don't own, and have no intention of purchasing, and more time still getting quotes for cars you will never own.

My mate has a competitor car to an Rs4, it has 500bhp ;) Oh, and it does **** all to the gallon, and I really don't think he, or anyone else gives a **** :)

You're having a giraffe.

Yeah, 'cos the first thing anyone does when they buy a performance saloon is measure the fuel economy in fine detail - come on Welshy, admit your first post is in the same realm of fantasy as the possibilty of holding an 'advanced drivers licence'...

Wonder what Mark (Panrix) reckons to his. I think he enjoys it.

? My god - this is iin the General car discussion area. If this thread is in the incorrect location can the moderator move the number of threads on Veyrons, Audi R8's, Carrera GT, Volvo S60 R etc all in the last 3 pages.

Im quite surprised about the odd (childish) remarks about MPG. Whenever someone gets a new car what do you usually ask them? Whats it like to drive, how fast, how much, any extras, how old is it, whats its economy.

Perhaps you lot just ask (like I see in far too many posts) so how long till you modify it?

With regard to not owning a vRS or any Skoda - well from being on here there seem to be quite a few who either dont own one now, never have owned one or just have a VAG non Skoda.

Shifty if you look at my posts before today - when was it??? Oh yes nearly 2 weeks ago.

For a bunch of people who supposedly are petrol heads coming out with the drivel some of you have posted here is clearly stating hands up high in the air "Im a sh&t eating ch^v"

My 4x4 uses fuel, when it runs out I fill it up, sometimes twice a day. I tuned it to have fun, same applies if you buy a performance car, its the fun factor that counts

Was that the one at Trax Jason?

Um - this is off thread.

It has nothing to do with the RS4.

If I drove my car 900-1000miles a day I'd have to fill it up twice a day - big deal, how many miles did you drive to need to fill it up twice?

I totally dont understand the points about the fun of tuning and fun in buying a performance car. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID IN THE FIRST POST HE HAS BOUGHT AN RS4. I TOOK IT FROM THAT EVERYONE ON HERE KNOWS THAT ITS A PERFORMANCE CAR.

When you say its the fun that counts - counts in comparison to what?

RS4

I'd buy one just for the seats...

They are incredible. Have you sat in them? If not go down to the Audi dealer and trust me they are better than they look.

...and what I'm saying is that I'm struggling to comprehend why anyone, in their first fortnight of owning an RS4, would go to the lengths of doing brim-to-brim fuel economy calculations.

And no, if one of my friends got a new car like that, "What's its economy?" would not be one of the questions I asked. It'd go without saying. 1.0l diesel hatchback = bought for economy; 4.2l petrol = not bought for economy, so why bother asking...

Still, if your friend was concerned about it, he could always look at a stop/start system, and solar powered air con...

Read the first post - he decided to take the cash instead of the comp car and added some of his own to make up the difference.

This car is being used to commute - it is his only car and will be covering up to 20,000 a year. I didnt mention that part but perhaps this helps the why I asked about fuel economy and why it is important to him.

Id say fuel economy is important to everybody - who wouldnt have an interest in its fuel economy? Two identical cars with same performance yet one uses much less fuel, I & pretty much everyone in their right mind would choose the most efficient

Eh? What's that got to do with anything I've posted?

Fair enough. But if your friend really has been sat there with calculator and fuel receipts, then isn't it a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted?

So there's a LESS efficient version of the RS4 is there?

Surely anyone covering 20k a year who doesn't own half of Shell and has an interest in fuel economy would look at the RS4, say "that's a nice car" and then buy the 3.0 diesel? More money than sense clearly.

Like my colleague who trashed his Skyline and has decided to buy - as his daily commute car - a frickin Sil-eighty drift thing! Daft as a brush.

Well simply fill up the tank you have ltrs used and you also have distance driven you get MPG. Even using your phone as a calculator it takes no longer than 10 seconds to work it out.

What my point is that he is surprised at how good it is, he hardly ever does urban driving its all A & B roads.

The other car you could say is a M3 Clubsport run out model (similar ish age) thats much worse on fuel going from the M3 owners forums vs this persons actual results

Well if he averages 30mpg thats not bad going at all. He wouldnt drive a diesel and always has newish cars and always wants the sports model.

20k a year is only 77miles if he uses it mon to fri only or 55 incl sat 7 sun. UK ave for a car up to 3 years old is 12k.

Ditto

Drifted off topic

My post was purely as the thread appeared to be drifting onto an economy based (yawn) discussion, it would appear you bit a tadge, wasnt meant to wind anyone

to answer your other points, on track 8 mpg so not far, on the road Im guessing about 300-350 miles on a tank, 4x4 has a bigger tank, Filled up friday when car showed 15 miles left, cost £60.

Fun that counts ??? If thats what you get fun from thats what you get fun from, Agreed if you get fun from economy then dont buy a RS4.

Personally Ive got the 350 bhp 4x4 for my kind of fun, the Octy Diesel estate as a daily hack & Wendys Superb as a comfortable cruiser so I can tick whatever box I need to that day.

Personal Fun, If I had the money it would be a Mosler, R8 or GT3 in that order. Lifes too short to worry

Well simply fill up the tank you have ltrs used and you also have distance driven you get MPG. Even using your phone as a calculator it takes no longer than 10 seconds to work it out.

Still doesn't answer why:

a. He's bothering to do it, when most people wouldn't even think about things like that until they've had their car a while - I'm still not convinced you're not making it all up, by the way;

b. He didn't think to check on the economy BEFORE he bought it. I mean, surely if you buy a car like that, you just accept the fuel economy for what it is rather than sitting down every time you fill up and working out exactly how much fuel you've used - like Kaiserb_uk said, if it really was that big a deal, your mate would have said "that's a nice car" and then bought the 3.0 S-Line Quattro diesel...
