5k spend

5k 2 spend on a 2002 octavia vrs any 1 suggest best buys to increase bhp thanks:thumbup:

A remap will give you up to 40bhp extra for about £350

That's the single biggest improvement.

Other than that , it's time for a bigger turbo , new exhaust and improving the air intake and cooling.

If you plan on making lots of changes then the best way of doing it is to get those first then get a custom remap last as it will take all of these into account

A remap is the best value. Most bang for buck. We are starting a group buy. See link below.

5k? Id sell the vRS and put the 5k together and get something faster out of the box. After all youll still have a FWD car and its limitations.

As above, best bang for your buck is a remap unless you plan embarking on bigger turbos and associated gubbins. If you want more than 300bhp, you'll need £5K again, especially when you start looking at clutch, suspension mods and brakes to keep that extra oomph on the tarmac!

Most on here though will tell you a remap gives very noticable on the road power increase!

And what would you have in mind that is faster out of the box for £5K that is reliable and practical? Get the set up right on an Octy and you can a very neutral handling car despite FWD.

No no, sell the vRS AND put 5k towards something.

Hang on, he didnt word that too well, I think he's after buying a car for 5k, or is he? Ive no idea.

FMIC, TIP, downpipe, sports cat, cat-back system, carbonio, S3 MAF and injectors, Whiteline ARB, S3 upper and lower front strut braces, Dot5 brake fluid, upgraded brake pads (Redstuff ceramics?), braided brake hoses, quality tyres, Bailey/Forge recirc DV and a quality, custom remap.

That's what I would buy :D

Thats a scary thought..

I'd probably go exhaust, FMIC, intake, recirc valve, remap, good tyres, brakes, suspension, struts and ARB, a few dials and stuff and a full valet to top things off.

Thats how I read it in which case I agree with you. Sell up and buy something else.

Spend 2k on the car - more than enough - use the rest for something more interesting, like extra petrol and insurance!

Get the suspension, rear ARB and brakes done first, then you will realise that you already have a reasonably quick car, that then will actually handle properly, then worry about the other items such as re-map etc.

Couldn't agree more!!

You could easily spend over half your budget on the chassis:

  • Suspension: kw3's, poly bushes, various rigidity bars & rear anti roll bar 1.5k.
  • Brakes: brembo or AP's for 1k-1.4k

This alone would transform the cars on road performance and handling before you even look at the engine.

2k on the engine would get you:

  • Sports d/p, cat and 2.5" system
  • Jabba FMIC
  • Jabba cold air induction kit
  • Bailey dv30
  • Various oversized intake pipes
  • Jabba Boost controller
  • Jabba custom re-map - with that spec good for a comfortable 245bhp and within the limits of the clutch and drive train

If you blew the money on the engine, which technically you could do, you'd be in danger of stripping the gear box, smoking the clutch in a matter of a few thousand miles and the handling and general safety would be seriously compromised as the standard springs/dampers/bushes/discs/callipers etc. wouldn't be up to the job……the list of extra jobs goes on......

If I were you with that budget i'd get a sweeeeeet handling motor and tune it to 245ish bhp, then enjoy the fact you can outstrip most 3 litre BMW's in a SKODA!!!:D:D :D

Steve:)

if you really really dont want to go to town on handling mode then atleast do the rear ARB.

it is the best mod i have put on the car to date.

Without wanting to take the thread off topic too much (should be useful to the OP too) if you had to describe in simple terms to a dunce like me what the overall effect of an ARB is on the handling how would you describe it?

I had been thinking that if I was to do a single mod on the car it would be a remap but I've been having second thoughts. After getting a rare chance to open her up last night I'm not really left thinking "I need more power" the only thing I would like would be to dial out a touch of understeer.

generally speaking, a stiffer rear ARB on a FWD car reduces understeer

Also stops the rear end of the car rolling about all over the place when putting the car into a corner.

in simple terms the arb stops the rear end of the car from twisting as much.

hence reduces understeer and makes it easier to put the power down

Also stops the rear end of the car rolling about all over the place when putting the car into a corner.

hence the name :D

Thanks for the explanations chaps. Sounds like just what I'm after

Not mine I hope - the missus drives the Octy now I've spent £7k on an M3 Evolution. Had to spend a grand on it since (tyres, tax, bits and pieces and fixing a hole in the exhaust) and it makes a few noises (almost as many as the 1.8T!:D) but the VANOS works and it went straight through the MOT yesterday - astonishing emissions for a 10 year old engine.

£1.8k insurance sucks, but it was pennies under a grand on the Octy anyway. 28mpg ain't great, but then you show it some corners or a long clear straight and it's all . Especially on a sunny day with the top down.

I'm glad I put my money there instead, cos it's loads more smiles than you'd get buying and fettling an RS, but I can definitely see the attraction - it very nearly swung that way several times.

Bagsie a drive.

:rofl::P

sorry wot is a ARB?

fecking how much for insurance!!

dont tell welshy though ;)
