Thought I'd get the opinions of Briskodians. As the title say, do you think that Jason (who is ever pushing the limits of Modding) should go with a 4WD setup or should put in a second engine to power the rear wheels....

Where's the option for 6 wheel drive and two engines ? :D

4 wheel drive for me , iirc isn't a twin engined vehicle illegal on British roads

4wd for me. Just seen another pic of the rear diff setup in the gallery. :D Looks relatively easy..... Seems it uses the same separate damper/spring cup setup too.

do please lemme know ;) hehe - all these options for my plans for next year :D

You're going to need more power to make 4WD worth it. Bring on the V8 fabia!

4WD all the way as i too thought that a twin engine set up was now illegal

4 wheel drive will help put the power down significantly better. Are you look at permanent 4wd or a Haldex coupling?

It'll use the same haldex setup - or at least the one in CZ did - but he had some "button" which put more power to the back wheels - Interested in knowing exactly how that worked as it seemed purely electronically setup - no mechanics involved in that. He used it for 1st and 2nd, then flicked a switch on the dash before finding 3rd....

twin engine!!!

but when did it become illegal? i remember seeing a blue vw golf twin engine a few years back with 2 G60 lumps in it and that was being used on the road

4WD from me

Then get the racelogic traction control with launch control ;)

Sat on the line at Santa Pod

Brings revs to 4k

Drops clutch

Car Flys

Bangs throught the box

Records the fastest ever 1/4 mile for a Fabia ;)

Aye you've got to disconnect one of the engines for use on the road though I've no idea how I know that.

4x4 easily.

To make the twin engine version work it'll cost more as you'd be looking at the same spec engine front and rear, both mapped exactly the same etc. You'd also need a huge ammount of bodybork mods and have to consider the extra weight.

You'd then have two options for the drive. Either the uprated haldex unit as per Eddy's car or if you fancy a challenge you could take the rear and centre diff etc. from a Subaru Justy and use that.

However, the latter may require a stronger gearbox at the front and would need the central diff.

Either will require a custom prop shaft.

ah that makes sense. i think i remember the article saying he has to bump start the rear engine after using a mech to join the gear linkage together.so it runs one engine day to day probably

Wouldnt that be Big Dub, 2x turbocharged VR6's one 2.8 and one 2.9 IIRC

Fantastic motor and a nice bit of engineering.

given the amount of torque he'd be dumping straight onto the gearbox and the amount of traction provided, it could go more like this:

Sat on the line at Santa Pod

Brings revs to 4k

Drops clutch

Gears etc exit casing with a bang

Records the loudest ever "ooohhh" ever

this is going by what happened to a 4wd 1.8T on the road

:D

No brainer 4wd. If poss go Subaru type permanent system for simplicity, I also believe older Ford 4wd were permanent, XR4 & the like. Not sure what would be the most "adaptable" though, what about an older rally car transmission, Metro XR4 etc

Jason has driven with another Engine in the boot, that should give an idea of how much more the extra weight slows you down. Also keeping the rear lump cool means loads of additional air ducting

OTOH 2 engines means double the power without increasing engine or drivetrain stresses.

2 engines is just NOT happening.
