312mm tt brakes fitted

Featured Replies

got my brakes yesterday and this morning set to with 2 essies hubby fitting them, what a simple task, they bolted straight on no probs, which was a complete suprise to me as any thing i touch usually turns into a complete mare, simple job to fit, bled up easy, the only snag was my forge strut brace blocked the brake fluid reservoir so a bit of messing about was required to top it up,on the road i noticed the brakes feel much better and inspire a bit more confidence,i havn't really stepped on them yet as they need time to bed in,an added bonus is that they don't squeek like the oe setup.

A top mod that can be done with next to no mechanical no how,i would recomend it to anyone well chuffed:D

They are great aren't they? Wait till you try your first really hard stop - you feel you're going to go through the windshield - nearest thing a car does compared to motorbike 'stoppies'.....

Well done!

Bas

They are good, but I've already gone the next step up. I found them excellent with Pagid FR pads too.

Jase - you need bl**dy great big parachutes for your car....

You know kidding aside, that'd be a great effect - after you cross the 15 second 1/4 mile - wonder if you can use an army-surplus chute.....

yeh we all know you have the brembo's jason:P,will probably change the pads in the next couple of weeks so i think i will trust your judgement on this one,i would have liked the brembo's but a]i couldn't find any and b]i want to keep the car as standard looking as i possibly can.

Still not made my mind up on the suspension yet but am leaning towards the kw coilovers tbh,how long till the new brakes have bedded?

Have you started the turbo conversion yet bas? If so where is the progress so far/fitting guide thread?;)

Have you got the brakes from golfturbo? If so, they're already bedded in to a point, but I would give them 500 miles to be sure. :)

KW - good choice.

Yeah, chute deploys, there's a big bang and the back half the car detaches leaving one souped to the max diesel lump, two wheels and Jason clinging to the steering wheel...

no not from him,i got them off ebay after wardy tipped everyone off about them in an earlier thread on the subject.

Have you got that lsd fitted yet? That would send those ss1/4 times tumbling, also have you got the dogbone mount on?

dogbone mount will be with me in a couple of days although probably not fitting it until the LSD equipped gearbox goes in - which won't be long all being well. I'm off in Bristol for 1st 3 weeks of October so this might be a good time to give my car to my mate and they can spend time over doing it.

I always find it easier to remove the boost pipe from the EGR to access the brake fluid.

I think you'll be surprised how good the OEM pads are, you should get some use out of them before upgrading.

ok then i'll give the oem pads a chance:thumbup:hope to be getting and fitting rear arb and dogbone mount next month:Dso the car is coming along nicely .Before christmas the coilovers/eibach's and koni fsd's will be on,and the clutch will be replaced,i will also have another read of basil's lsd fitting thread and have a think about fitting it myself,i think that and the turbo will be the only jobs i may pay to have done, everything else will be me my spanners and lots of reading of the how to fit threads so thanks to the knowledgable briskodians for sharing their knowledge:D

sorry to hijack, but few quick q's

a) how much are the TT 312mm discs?

B) take it standard oem pads are sufficient?

c) how much to fit from a pro?

d) are the standard 16" alloys big enough or do you need at least 17" wheels?

thanks :D

16" are fine :)

not sure on the rest myself.

Glad you got that set in the end - seemed a good buy :)

You don't seem that far away, so pop down nearer Manc if you want to see how Eibach/FSDs perform :)

Where can I buy some of these???

Is it worth also fitting the rear brakes from the TT?

I'm not 100% but i think the TT rears are harder to come by as TT owners don't upgrade the rear as its not a simple replacement job like on the fronts.

no.

So what's a decent (effective) rear brake upgrade then?

Just bigger discs and/or better pads?

nowt, leave em alone.

they do sod all as it is, a great mechanic once told me not to bother as bigger brakes wil do nothing but look pretty on the rear if you already have discs. if they are too big then they simply do less work and as they move and do so little they can seize causing you lots fo problems.

so yes they weedy, yes bigger ones look cool but there's no point as a vast majority of the braking is done with the fronts.

Might look into this as I can get trade prices on mechanical stuff ;)

What would I need for the conversion?

Disks?

Pads?

Calipers?

Carriers?

brake lines?

new reservoir?

Steve
