Which type of petrol

Featured Replies

I have just ordered an L&K 1.8T FSI Octavia. Should I use unleaded or super unleaded petrol for best performance/care of engine?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Brisky

I would say that if the 1.8TFSI is anything like the 2.0 in the vRS then you would be better sticking to Tesco's 99 SUL or V-Power.

I found with my old vRS that throttle response was much improved, as well as top end power and I got more miles per tankfull which took the sting out of the extra cost.

Oh, and may as well before the vultures circle :D :D is your name really susan, or is that a "weekend" name, if it's your real name ...... are you cute :D :D :D :D :D

Look inside the filler cap and it'll tell you. Probably 97RON and 95RON in emergency with reduced performance.

Doh! Asda only sell 95RON so that's my 2p off per litre wasted with their CC

Did the latest shopping at Tesco, over £50-worth, and got 5p a litre off any pump in their filling station. Tesco 99 still my favourite by a long way, and that is in only a non turbo 2.0FSI.

Engine is a bit nicer on Tesco 99 but I don't get any extra mpg.

Mine was mapped for 99 octane along with some other tweaks which made a small bu noticable difference in mpg.

If you're looking for economy you could try diesel...

I'll get me coat!

LOL :D But you have to pay a premium for that anyway :)

Not too bothered about a few mpg, as a low mileage person, but love that extra zip in the gears - feels like an extra 20 bhp. I'm sure it isn't, but it feels really peppy.

I read an interesting article in a VW mag this weekend. Basically it was saying that many engines in the VW group, including Skoda were designed for 97RON and continued use of 95 was proving to cause excessive valve wear and burning.

The advice - check the sticker in the filler.

If it's anything like my 53 vRS......

Normal ULG - it works ave 34.5mpg

Tesco premium - lively ave 35.2mpg

V-Power - Much better ave 36.5mpg

BUT

Total Excellium - STUNNING.........AND..............41.1mpg

This was bought in France (St. Lo) and most of the mileage was in the UK. The Euro version may be better than UK, but we don't have a Total station locally for me to try.

We all know on here that its best to use the likes of Vpower and other super unleadeds, but perhaps the sales staff at skoda should be made aware of the article stu mentioned above and of what it says in the filler cap as the sales staff i dealtwith told me normal unleaded was fine.

FFS Fluffmeister you beat me to it i was gonna ask if she was cute

:D :D It's the "squaddie" gene mate, I could not hold back :D ...... mind, she has not been back again yet so prolly a munter

Well, my mk1 vRS was only ever run on bog standard 95 ron, never did any harm in more than 4 years of ownership. The car was even remapped to just under 225BHP on sainsburys 95ron.

Oh no you don't!!

Shell V-Power petrol 102.9 ppl; Shell V-power Diesel - 100.9 ppl. At the fuel stations I use.

IMHO (as you are buying the TFSI) - use Shell V-power or Tesco 99; my Fabia always ran best on these.

I meant the car, not the fuel. Should have made it clearer.

Ah yes; the TDI is more expensive to buy. Oops - Doh!

Still; usefull price comparison for the fuel.

Thanks everyone for your help. I always use Shell unleaded in my Fabia, so will move up to Shell V-Power when I get the Octavia.

Thanks again.

Why not 'treat' your Fabia to a tankful or two of V-power before you let her go?
