Another Problem

Featured Replies

You may remember my new ( used) Vrs had oil in the water coolant which took 5 weeks to sort out well another problem.

Last Friday I lost the key so I had to fork out for a new one and for the last week or so noticed the coolant level was dropping quickly, this morning found a small puddle of coolant on the floor. I am think I have walked under every ladder that has been made.

have you run over a black cat recently , you're not having any luck with that car , lets hope its nothing major again

If it is it will be bye bye Skoda.

Relax, it could be far worse, you could have an Alfa. :thumbdwn: bitter experience:thumbdwn: :finger:

Will be going to the dealers after work to get it fixed.

It's a crack in a pipe, getting fixed on Saturday. Decided to get rid of the car I want something reliable.

looks like you just got a bad apple it happens with all manufacturers!

If it's any help, this article describes what you can and can't expect from a legal point-of-view...

a pipe is nothing major, see how it goes after that before getting rid of it.

I can not keep going back it is a nightmare, everybody knows me by my first name at the dealers.

They is a Hyundai dealer 5 mins drive away from where I live, my parents have bought two cars from them over the past 6 years and only have had to replace tyres and exhaust on they used Accent and they bought a new Amica 12 months ago and not one problem.

Then take it back and stop moaning!

everybody knows me by my first name at the dealers.

See, another virtue of buying a Skoda.

As KTP says, see how it goes after that before getting rid of it, as I think you'll regret it later.

Easy to get peed off about cars - after tons of research, laying down the money etc.

I think you've just been plain unlucky :(

Hyundai are to cars what James Last is to music.

Never knew there was any relationship

My experience was the exact opposite!

I'll never touch another Skoda in my life, But I'd buy another Alfa tomorrow, had quite a few and never had a problem with any of them, plus the dealers aren't all to**ers, there mostly genuine enthusiasts!

i'm on my 3rd skoda, my octavia had a few issues but dealers were always very helpful with it, fabia hasnt had to go back for anything other than a flat tyre.

as for the attitude of dealers, my local garage are brilliant, i've been dealing with them for 10yrs i'd say and they are nothing but enthusiasts.

You must be one of the few who make up the minority of Alfa owners who think the dealers are ok. Also I will say that Alfas whilst being a 'buy with your heart' sort of car, they will quickly sicken you, IF you want the electrics to work as they should.

I see you drive a Superb, happy with that?

No I dont have the Superb any more, I sold that a year ago after 3 years of nothing but trouble and the absolute worst dealership network I've ever experienced.

I run a cab fleet of over 130 cars, and Skoda consistantly proved themselves to not only supply sub-standard cars, but also to have the worst dealership network, it is for these reasons that cab drivers all over the country are ditching Skoda, particularly as the MK2 Octy is even more unreliable than the MK1, The mk1 was cheap and came with a good warranty which meant you could live with the problems, the Mk2 is not cheap and does not come with a comparable warranty. As the Mk1's come to the end of there working life in the next year or 2 you will see far far less Skoda cabs.

In my personal life, I've been driving Alfa's since the days of the AlfaSud, and never had any trouble with any of them mechanically, the late 70's and early 80's cars did suffer with rust but this was sorted by the 90's, and in fact an early 90's Alfa will probably have less rust than the equivelant Ford/Vauxhall etc.

The 164 always had electrical problems, and the 156 did in the early days, but towards the end of the 156's production they were all sorted, the New 159/Brera etc have no such issues, and the quality of the interior materials etc put's all other manufacturers to shame, I'd happily be driving a 159 2.4JTDm with tan leather as my taxi instead of the Mondeo ST, if it wasn't for the lack of rear seat passenger accomodation!

I might have been expecting to much with the Vrs, but after the first 5 weeks of ownership which I only had the car for 5 days which has dented my feelings for the car.

I will take a test drive in a Getz in a couple of weeks.

A Getz! you are now really exposing yourself as a troll

Did you ever own a Skoda Fabia VRS?

A crippled Five year old VRS will outmatch a new Getz any day

You are joking and trolling are you not? Oh you mean a chevrolete ;-)

Hey you could trade your crippled VRS for a Getz and still have £5k in the bank

to pay the bus fare as it would be quicker

Not if it's sat at a dealer 80% of the time with a shagged cooling system it won't...

Rob.

Funny you should say that - a load of new 57 plate cabs have appeared where I live recently and they're all Skodas, and not all run by the same cab firm.

There will always be individuals (including cabbies) who are happy with there Skodas, I have several collegues who are intending to replace there Superbs with the new one if it ever comes out.

But as a fleet buyer Skodas are now a complete no no.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying they aren't nice cars, they just can't take the punishment a working life as a taxi gives them, wear and tear is accelerated in every part of the vehicle, so cabbies can give you a very good indication of how reliable a car will be outside the trade.

Basically, If a car can take the punishment we dish out to them, and still be reliable, then the chances are it'll never break down in personal use, currently reliable cabs are - Fords, Hyundias, Jaguars, Hondas, Mercedes and Audi's.

Currently un-reliable cabs are - Skoda, Nissan, Toyota, Vauxhall, Kia

So basically for cabs the reliability tables are turned upside down?
