The truth about Fabia RS 0-100km/h

Featured Replies

I wonder if Skoda perform the 0-60 with traction control on or off? Might explain the discrepancies in owner's figures....

Chris

Surely getting traction off the line, is quicker than wheel spinning?

Yep. But is it electronic traction control or right foot traction control? :D

Chris

I'ts probably some ****boyracer who doesn't know how to drive properly anyway, judging by the fact that front and rear fog lights are on...

Plus ther'll be extra drag from the alternator robbing it of about 0.0001bhp:)

Also as a full tank of fuel, a good 45l more than required = 45kg over weight :P (approx)

Comments like that are neccessary because? I suppose, he's humble because he cannot drive like you. I would be. God!

:D;) Well put. I must ask - What was the point in 'the truth' like it has been stated skoda run these tests with 4 huge guys in the car and fill the boot.

The person in this video - well what can I say he either didn't have much off a clue or felt he had to prove a point to the world - and in doing so did it badly and made him self look like a fool.

That's a bit harsh - he did 5 runs and got the factory quoted figures. Hardly making a fool of himself

Chris

Factory figures - That were got with a FULL car...

Also - on clear conditions - Why have both fog lights on...

Listen I have nothing against this guy and dont wish to appear HARSH but even with my stock fabia vRS.. I got different results.

Do you have a link to where it says how Skoda perform 0-60 runs?

Also - on clear conditions - Why have both fog lights on...

I'm not sure why that matters?

Chris

It makes a slight difference, not huge imo.

On my Ibiza got 8.4 with TCS on and 8.1 with TCS off, standard apart from 17's...

0-62 is 9.4, 0-60 is 8.5 ish on Fabia VRS

Chris

I do not have a link. Im sorry Chris. I was just stating my opinion on the matter.

- Listen, I do not wish to take this any further. Like I said -

In my old car I got different figures and once again in my opinion the guy is driving in clear weather with both front and back fog lights on.

Rob

asr and a full tamk of fuel dosent help

Where does it say good conditons?

What I do find stupid, is people timing themselves at 7 seconds. But not a realistic time-range. This whole bloody myth about the times being recorded with 3 passengers and a boot of luggage turns me hysterical. Apparently the whole of Skoda do it.

It's a shame they put slower figures than actual, I thought personally they'd try and sell the sportiest car in it's class, rather than making it appear slower.

- It appears to be dark. No way would you get that much contrast in the daylight off the dash lighting

- The ASR is on, but it doesn't actually kick in much

- He doesn't take it anywhere near the redline - his gearchanging is very consistent at between 4200 and 4500 rpm. He also seems to change gear pretty quickly and smoothly.

- Most important of all, he doesn't say how it's being timed. At a guess it's being done by videoing the speedo, you need a race meter really to get accurate times. The speedo reading will be several % out. This will be affecting all your home timed runs also especially if you are operating the timing equipment yourself, as well as lost reaction time at the launch.

We all know they're quick, so what does it matter if someone can do 9.1 or 8.1???

I'm happy with mine and know it can beat all of your VRS's ;)

There is no question about it those times must be wrong:

I mean if I can take a veryon in my fabia vrs its got to be quicker than that!!!!

:rofl: :rofl: :rofl::thumbup:

Does it really matter people? We all know that the Fabia's 0-60 time isn't what the cars about. Its once its moving it really flys.

And I also found ASR off makes a big difference on the 1/4 mile, I think its a poor excuse of a traction control that I only use in the wet to be honest, but that might be just me.

Ahh I was getting up to 130kph before the furbys on the payage yesterday including one incident on a slip road.

What a wierd thread !

I never thought the vRS was fast off the line - heavy, FWD, not enough tyre, limited rev range means more gearchanges ...

But the 0-62 doesn't tell the story of the feeling of in-gear performance that makes the car fun to drive.

I used to run an E34 530i and the vRS actually feels more responsive in daily use. Of course it isn't faster (by several miles), but throttle response and the fact you don't need to rev the nuts off it is what entertains.

Also the 45mpg rather than 18 :-)

Well said Ricko, hit the nail right on the head there.

Just want to add the ASR is pants on these cars, several times trying to pull into traffic quickly it's interfered and caused a brown trouser moment. Stupid ASR.

Agreed 100% - an ignition-switched relay to turn it off on start up would be far better...

btw you can measure accel/quarter mile with vagkom (sp.) - check out Ross-Tech: VAG-COM Tour: Measuring Blocks

I've been away from my PC for a few days, had some business.

I didn't expect the thread to grow this large, that's nice :-)

Anyway, lot's of people asked about the FOG LIGHTS. The reason for the rear fog lights is I was doing that in the middle of the road on a PUBLIC highway (speed limit 130km/h!) in the middle of the night. I wanted to make myself as much as "seeable" as it can be, holding the brakes, rear fog lights and hazard lights on. People do drive fast on the highway/motorways :-)

Next, the way it was measured is said in the video description on youtube, I measured it FRAME BY FRAME, (1 frame of 24 in one second!) from the moment the tyres starded squealing (before the needle moves) up to somewhere between 100 and 105km/h, actually, I watched more the rev counter at ~4000rpm, can't remember anymore, but ALL measurements were identical.

Basil mentioned the Vag-COM measurements, yes, I did measure it that way! Here are the results:

Metric units

0 to 100 km/h: 9.4 +- 0.62s

400m: 16.7 +- 0.62s, @131 km/h

90-120 km/h: 5.9 +- 0.62s

200 meters: 10.7 +- 0.62s, @105 km/h

US Units

0 to 60 mph: 8.8 +- 0.62s

1/4 mile: 16.8 +- 0.62s, @81 mph

60-90 mph:

660 feet: 10.7 +- 0.62s, @65 mph

Please notice the 0-60 mph is NOT the same as 0-62mph which is actuall 0-100km/h time!

I forgot about the ASR, will try it with it off when I have the time.

Did I forget anything? :-)

I think there might be a clue about the spelling in the link that follows ...

PMSL! - just trying to avoid a certain 'person' who is always using the search function with the terms spelt correctly:rolleyes: .....

Trying to keep the discussion on track without comments from a certain VAS-5051 reverse-engineered software manufacturer......

Just read this....

If it was the OP's car, and he says it is 'stock', why does his sig. say his car is 160bhp?

If it was, and it is, if I were him I would be mightily disappointed.

If it wasn't, and it isn't, who really cares, and what difference does it make?

If the car does what it says on the tin fair enough.

I don't see the point in posts like this, and why am I even bothering to reply?

DOH!
