West Country based promotions company, RPM, are pleased to announce the creation of a unique event: The RPM Spring Tour, which provides Specialist Car owners the rare opportunity to experience the thrill of motorsport without the stresses, strains (and costs) of competition.

Taking place on Sunday March 30th, the tour gives owners who are passionate about their driving the chance to tread the paths of many great names, visiting a variety of venues which have a heritage steeped in motorsport nostalgia.

Starting from legendary Prescott Hill Climb, crews will congregate in the paddock, before driving the 1127 yards of infamous twisting tarmac.

Just got the details through - I've been accepted. Awful lot of regs:

time controls, checkpoints, scrutineering, numbers on cars, boinnet plate for the event etc

Looks well organised and looks like fun!

Just received aceptance, rules etc ...... also, will be my first track event in the car ....and Val is my navigator :eek:- may see you there or see you screem past I hope there are some other novices taking part - any tips Jon and Des?:

Just have fun and, if they do run more than one car at once, watch out for faster stuff (not that there will be much )

Make sure you have enough petrol, it does go down quite quick on track

Check all your levels before starting the day

Keep it on the black bits? LOL A bit like drving and overtaking on on Autobahns then. My main concern is if other drivers obey the no overtaking in corners and me keeping to the racing line. I assume the overall safety to a large degree is governed by the strictness of the organisers with offenders.

Is it normal to overtake on the left?

Does anyone else have any idea what other cars are entered. I might be interested in entering but dont want to be seriously embarased in a stock 4x4 that Im not really used to yet.

I would also like to bring my son as a passenger (ok with the organisers) & let Wendy drive some bits & she has never driven on a track before althouth has passengered in an Ultima at Goodwood. They got black flagged, something about going through a corner at over 100 sideways but she loved it

Well there are at least 3 Skodas (2 black and 1 yellow), I know of at least 1 Evo 6 (TME I think) and a couple of Scoobs. Not sure about the rest though.

Cant see anywhere in the rules about children, on the booking form there is a box for the number of children under 16 (free) so I dont see as its a problem. The price covers driver and another driver/codriver.

If you are interseted I should speak to the organiser as the closing date was on Monday officially.

I suggest you email re suitability of your car (I would have thought it would be fine)and other concerns. - I emailed a query and got a quick response.

Mailed the organisors for advise, they advised I speak to my own insurance co and then to the event insurers, contacted my insurance co and was advised that I am insured as long as there is no timing or racing - I gave them the event description and details of all venues used - so thats fine and I dont need to give them any details of dates etc.

Who are your insurers? As soon as you mention "track" in any guise DL just say no. Shame as Driver training in my view is a proactive reduction of risk.

Dont know if it helps, I'm with Barclays direct & they include 4 track days per year subject to prior notification (they covered me for Imola last year) they also give full UK & European cover (Europe 45 days) & this includes recovery. They bought the Scoob back from Italy last year (blown head gasket) & it included free hire car etc

Is a little unhelpfull imo. I was told by a most insolent woman that my increase calculations for my chip was old BHP / new BHP, giving (150/207)*100 = 72% increase...when I questioned this she said thats the way it was calculated. Well the conversation went downhill from there TBH, with her getting more and more terse, at the end I asked her to go back and redo the quote using 38%; it's won't make any difference, but I'll do it for you.

Surprisingly it knocked 100 quid of the premium. I'll phone again closer to my renewal date; hopefully that won't confuse them to much. It took two minutes to get past the renwal date issue as current policy expires in August...so the why are you getting quotes now questions? Because I can change anytime I like...

Re insurance, I'm quite toen on this; castle coombe to me being the biggest risk. So for the event coverage with 900 excess, and upto 6k bodywork cover, i.e. not a write off using Competition Car Insurance (also arranging the events insurance) it's

I used Barclays direct & not Barclaycard direct, I guess they are probably the same but I have had no probs with Barclays direct & have been with them for 3 years. They covered us for the Cannonball at no extra charge & when the Scoob died they gave me several options.

1. Fly Wendy & I Home

2. A rental car to continue our holiday (Cannonball run, do Ford

focuses go that fast !!)

3. Either of the above & recover the car back to the UK

4. Either 1 or 2, fix the car in Italy & fly one of us out to get it.

We took option 2 & 3

A guy who had bent his car at Imola had it recovered to the uk but the option to get him home was a taxi to the Airport & hang around for Easy jet (needless to say everyone mucked in & he went with one team & his wife with another with their belongings shared between others)

Moral is cost isnt everything, check what you get.

Also one less space on the event, taken by a bog std 4x4, could this be a briskoda mini meet.

Speaking to the organiser there just might be an original short wheel base quatro entered, last saw one at the Castle Coombe rally day & it was a sight to see.
