Mark - have you had an email from Be regarding the router delivery issues?

Steve

Yeah, shame they have dropped the VOIP ports, but then I'm using my own so it isn't an issue.

Yeah, would have been nice, but I'm not complaining overall :)

Will be looking for some draft-N spec equipment soonish anyway :D

For now, my current hardware is running just fine...

Steve

I have just had to send them a properly shirty e-mail after three calls to the member centre results in yet another Indian call centre operative telling me that they have never heard of parcelforce messing up and I should sort the problem not them.

We shall see what is what, but at this rate it might well be the shortest time I have ever spent with an ISP if they can't even solve this one.

I have never heard of be. How do you find out how far away form the exchange you actually are?

I'm with virgin and they've just upgraded me to 10 meg.....I'm running 9.7meg download so can hardly complain....

Not sure if there's a way to find the distance "by cable" but Samknows - Exchange search can be used to find the postcode of the exchange and then any route planner will give you a rough idea....

I'd try ringing them about 11-midnight if you can Mark. I got a helpful chap at that time when I had to ring up for router settings on Thurs. But I appreciate it's a bit hit and miss. Otherwise, try between about 3-6pm. Because of the time difference, you should get a non-Indian call centre.

Oh, and my router turned up today (sorry if this doesn't make you feel any better!)

anybody who's been affected by be's recent issue with bebox delivery is being offered one months free service:thumbup:

https://www.bethere.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12649

posted 26th oct

Hi,

For those new members who have been affected by the lack of Be box's, the good news is that we have stock in now and our supplier will be working overtime to box and ship over the weekend.

We are really sorry that there has been a delay in receiving your Be Box. If you have not received it already your Be Box will be with you by Tuesday 30th October at the latest. If you really need to get online we have a dial-up facility that can be used.(see below for details).

One months’ Free Service for those members who have been affected.

To try and make up for the inconvenience caused we will credit one months’ free service to your next bill plus a credit for period that you have not been online. Our way of saying “Sorry”.

About your Be Box

Following member feedback and alignment with our future strategy we are now supplying a different type of modem than the one advertised when you signed up. The new modem offers the same functionality as before but does not have the VOIP ports and all 4 ethernet ports are now available for your use.

We hope that this will not have effected your introduction to Be too much but we would like to offer you opportunity to cancel your order. If you wish to cancel either raise a ticket in the Member Centre www.bethere.co.uk/memberhome.do giving us your Member ID and confirmation that you wish to cancel your order.

Kind regards and many thanks for your patients,

Dial-up details

For details on how to use dial-up; login to the Member Centre www.bethere.co.uk/memberhome.do, select the Support tab on the top navigation and click on the link “How do I get internet access before Be is connected?” or follow the steps below

In order to use this service you must have an internal or external dial-up modem and need to set-up a new Internet connection with the local rate number of 08450795654. The user name will be your Be user name followed by '@be', for example if your Be user name is JohnSmith then your dial-up user name will be JohnSmith@be. The password will be the same as your Be password. You will also need to present a valid CALLER ID (CLID) when dialling.

Important: during the Internet connections set-up you may be asked for DNS server IP addresses. If so use 194.112.32.1 for the Primary and 194.112.32.13 for the Secondary DNS server.

You will be charged for a local call rate by your supplier, we will not be able to refund any costs incurred for this usage.

We will be sending this out on an email to all members as well later this evening.

Kind regards,

Unfortunately the one months free service didn't cut it since the people unable to deliver my box have cost me money to go and try and get it only to be told it isn't there.

To top it off "Tony" in their modem delivery team seems unable to understand customer service and blamed me for my problems, even starting an e-mail with "Seeing your indignation" and then reminding me that even though I haven't signed for it the modem is still my responsibility.

I'm currently looking for a number for their Managing Director and if I don't receive suitable recompense for all of my time they have wasted and the rudeness of some of their staff I will be leaving.

Keep an eye out on ADSL guide or whatever it is now called as I'll most likely be posting the entire set of e-mail up there.

WAKEY WAKEY!

Just woken a slumbering thread to see if there are any further updates from those who were on, or thinking of changing to, Be as an ISP? The way VM is going now it is getting to the point where I'm looking at changing ISP and so wondering if Be is all it is cracked up to be (see what I did there? :P :o)

I too am thinking of changing ISP, I'm wanting to cut cost's but will require a Static IP address. This thread was really positive until I started reading about Cheesemonkai's problems with Parcel Force.

@ Cheesemonkai - Did you get a satisfactory result from Parcel Force or BE?

Not really.

I did get a modem about 4 months down the line.

I'm not all that impressed with the line stability and notice a big speed drop off on a busy exchange (More than Zen) plus awfully poor DNS servers on BE.

I'm fairly sure it is the BE DNS, but they do deny that they have problems, so obviously the DNS issues is just my opinion.

Cheers Dude.. Think I might stay with Zen then. Anything for the easy life. Just wish I could have a faster upload and download speed now.

I'm thinking of going back to Zen because I'm sick of losing connectivity due to a lack of DNS or similar.

I have to admit. I've been with ZEN for about 5years and I've never had any outage (not that I know of). Just want to save a few quid and up my speed. (512kb down & 128kb or 256kb upload is starting to become to slow for what I use my line for.)

I've been happy overall with Be's performance. Speed is good for me (around 12meg typically) and the 1.3Mb upload speed is useful. But I do suffer DNS issues like Mark. I have been moaning at them, but without much result as yet.

Can see your predicament about moving from Zen as they're probably the most reliable ISP. I'm just not sure if I could live with those speeds you've quoted Matt!

Steve

If you're only getting that slow on Zen I doubt you will get much better with Be to be honest.

If they could fix the DNS issues I could live with the slow downs to be fair.

I'm on their Home 500 package, just found out they've upgraded several times since I took it out, I've just upgraded to an 8mb package for the same amount of money :)

IIRC you now get a 50GB cap don't you but still a much happier you I would guess :)

My speed with be is really slow at my mums address which is only one street away from my old address but i cant be bothered trying to resolve it at the moment.

overall ive been pretty happy with them.

I think more and more providers are offering high speeds these days so choice is better.

no lengthy contract means a lot to me!

I spent months getting out of an 18 month contract and wouldnt like to get tied up again with a crappy provider!

After this yesterday I changed my package, I put the order in for Zens upto 8mb download package and by 4am today the order was complete. I'm now getting a 1.6mb download connection and a 448kb upload connection, they did advise that for the 1st 2-3days speeds would be slow as they would be carrying out line testing to find a nice reliable speed.

Outlook Web Access and the website's I host are certainly running quicker though and I'm still only on a 1month contract.

I checked my online stats and the last few months I've been downloading approx 45-46gb per month, damn this WSUS server and my incompitance in buggering it up twice :o .

Still I opted for the 5gb per month cap as I can buy more download gb's for not alot of money if I need more and it would still cost me less than my old package.

So another happy camper from Zen.:D
