BMW to relaunch the Triumph brand?

Featured Replies

Saw in this weeks Auto Express that BMW are considering relaunching the Triumph brand with a new TR.

It's obviously quite a similar idea to their purchase of Rover but without all the recent history and inherited problems and bad reputation , so I think this could really work. There's no doubt that an entirely BMW designed car would drive well and not fall apart and this could be a very nice alternative to an MX5

These are the shots they had of the car and are probably Auto Express's usual total work of fiction , but it does look nice.

Wow, thats stunning.

Looks very Z4 coupe from the side... love it!

That very very nice, i'd have one.........for free mind as i'm skint

I hope the interior has the same blend of contemporary meets classic. If its as high quality as the outside looks, and its sensibly priced, then they are onto a winner.

The front looks a bit nasty the way the lights are like frogs eyes, I like the rear and side though.

But the bug eyed thing was how proper triumphs used to look.

That's how Triumphs (bar the TR7) looked!

You'd love the Frog-Eyed Sprite then .....

Like it, looks spot on for a TR - my Dad had a TR6 (150bhp) - loved it still goes on about it till this very day

And the TR7 had popups...

Looks credible. So what do AE normally do? Get work from automotive design students and put it out as rumours of real concepts, or draw them themselves, or what...?

There's a fair amount of "artists impression" of new cars.

Some are bang on to be fair , but others are wild speculation that I'm sure they just find on the net.

I'd buy one with a BMW straight six up front and rear wheel drive. Could be a commendable vehicle.

Presumably that would just make it a Z4 in a different body? :D

Exactly. Selling a Triumph fould be madness.

It'll never happen.

Given BMW's insistance on RWD I think that's likely but I can see this as being more of a competitor for the MX5 , so a 4 cylinder engine or two being the best sellers , and a price under 20k

I wouldnt mind a modern version of the Dolomite Sprint....

hope the triumph is an improvment on the tr8 the other half used to run - what a bag of ****e
