Vista - oh dear, all over again

Featured Replies

Yup, Microsoft have done it again.

What a pile of poo - that needs sooooo much tweaking to make it user-friendly / efficient (as per XP but with even MORE settings to configure).

And then to make matters worse, they change so much around so it's harder to find (must be copying from the supermarkets with this 'effect').

Change for change sake I say - very little innovation (they'd do better to hire some 3rd party add-on programmers).

Will plod on - have to cos XP will probs be no longer supported in a few years time but am seriously very unimpressed. :thumbdwn::thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

i actually quite like vista, i heard so much bad-mouthing of it on the net from people that have probably never used it, but i thought i'd try it anyway and once you get used to it it's fine, it runs a lot more stable than xp ever did on my machine

I had Vista as a beta and promptly uninstalled it. The full version isn't much better TBH. The only saving grace is that it repairs itself and is a tiny bit more secure than XP, but apart from that, you can take your fancy graphics and you can.....

No issues here really. Was when I first popped it on, as the drivers for most of my hardware werent out, so I took it off, but since I put it back on, everything is A ok.

I use it on my laptop, and I love it, no problems whatsoever.

I'm still running XP Pro on home systems. Don't see any reason to change, for change's sake as it were. Perhaps if I was building a new box, or buying a new laptop etc...

As for XP support, MS will keep releasing patches and updates, as appropriate, until April 2009. There's lifecycle details for support on the MS website, if you search.

So I wouldn't worry about running XP for the forseeable. Personally, I'll consider upgrading existing systems when SP1 for Vista is released. No confirmed date or timeframe for that, that I can find.

Steve

Running it here, no problems what so ever, and is more stable than XP

Cant say I've had any problems with Vista.

First thing I did do was to change it all back to classic view.

have been running vista for over a year now in its various beta flavours and the final one for about 10 months... its been fine apart from early drivers being a bit suspect.

recently did a re-install to change my RAID config and now im running the final with mature drivers its spot on...

Runs faster than XP does with a decent (dual core) cpu i rekon, its NEVER bluescreened or crashed and everything i want it to do it does very quickly.. it may be a tiny bit slower playing games but im not a FPS whore so i dont notice. :D

Yes , it works fine on all my machines.

As stable as XP now that decent drivers are available , and nice and quick.

Some stuff has been moved around but it's no more complicated and if you want it to be exactly the same as XP just stick with XP

then again, XP isn't exactly intuitive... we've just gotten used to it

That's the first thing I do when installing XP too! Can't be doing with all these dumbing down menus and hiding settings from me

Snap.

But still offers very little that I can see - other than yet more complication and 'cr*p'.

XP - used since it came out, has been rock solid and other than one 16bit application causing it problems has crashed / locked up on me maybe five times in probably as many years - and I do 'use' it a great deal for so many things.

Oh, so that at least is not dumbed down (any more):D

Been using vista since it was released a year ago. I have no problems, and once you adapt to how it works its far better than xp. Behind the scenes vista is far better at memory management than XP ever was. The frontend is very simillar to XP.

Dont forget that when we went from Windows 3.1 to 95, 11 years ago there were the same problems with the UI. People adapt to the new layout surprisingly quickly.

It's very pretty :)

thats my input. Thanks for listening

:D

I just dumped it after problems with disk access whilst gaming back to xp for now

I thought it very nice to use and look at but the missus didn't like it much and game thing kinda sealed it's fate in or house

The company who supply PC's for our modelling systems have ditched it as well for the moment, just tooooooooo many issues to sort & everything is fine with XP

Microsoft have increased how long they are selling XP for, so I guess this will lengthen how long updates are available for too. Also, isn't Service Pack 3 due out for XP soon?

i run vista on 2 dell machines(1 laptop and 1 desktop) and haven't had a single issue at all. we installed vista beta on our old machine instead of XP that was super unreliable and vista made it much much more reliable than XP :)

and whats the issue with games? run them fine here thanks :) (HL2, EP1, EP2, portal etc etc all run with no issues)
