a quid and 7p on the A1 up north today - ****in robbers

107.9 for Diesel Extra now in Marcham, 104.9 at Esso here in Bracknell.

Can't wait to be in Holland, should be < 90p comfortably :)

99% of garages in belfast are £1 + for diesel now...

f0ck the govt's 80% tax on fuel... :thumbdwn:

Think Unleaded is still $2.92 per US Gallon in Texas. That's about 35p per litre. Yeah, I'd be driving a 5.7 Hemi as well. And, IIRC, Texas doesn't have any Income Tax, either.

And if the US had the same level of taxation as here you can be damned sure there'd be a lynching'

Living 32 miles away from work means I have to commute every day, and to use public transport would involve 2 trains and a bus each way taking about 2 hours. The car takes 45 mins.

We've been campaigning at work for a greater working from home policy to help things out but they don't seem interested. They claim it's to do with our working practices not supporting it (we're IT engineers.......) but I think it's more to do with keeping an eye on us as they don't trust us to do our jobs when not in the office. Funny how they expect us to do out of hours support 24/7 for all 365 days of the year from home......

Working from home could be adopted by so many companies, even if it's just for a couple/ few days a week. The reduction in travelling requirements would drastically reduce fuel costs for commuters - why travel if you can do your job without doing so?

Sure, only a few types of work can support such practices but all businesses that can do so should do.

Reducing the demand on fuel can only be of benefit to things. Supply and demand has a huge impact on the cost of fuel, obviously alongside the massive amount of tax slapped on it. Makes me apalled how the government is under the impression they don't have any responsibility for the current prices and the effect it has. We don't all live in London and have a nice tube system to use on a daily basis. The transport networks upon which the UK's economy depends so much is obviously directly affected by the cost of juicing up. Such daft levels of tax are ultimately putting the UK's currently fragile economy at risk.

Bloody fools.

BP ultimate is 110.9p per litre up the road from me, balls to that.

Standard diesel for me i'm afraid :(

Filled up at a Tesco off the A23 in sarf London at 103.9p. That's the cheapest i've seen all week. Not good when I do over 1000 miles a week :(:thumbdwn:

I've also noticed a few petrol station signs with no numbers, either the older ones have run out of digits or they can't put the price up quick enough

did anyone see the paper yesterday about how much extra money the government are making due to high oil prices and how they can afford to drop the price by 9p a litre??

No he isn't.

Yes he is, currently you pay VAT on the price for fuel plus fuel duty, not just VAT on the price of the fuel + service etc before fuel duty.

So? That's how it's always has been

Yes and it's taking the f**king p*ss as VAT is a tax on luxuries and fuel duty isn't a luxury.

Taxing tax is bang out of order.

Me I'm just hoping that the chancellor can't make a budget speech one year as that way the emergency measure that is Income Tax would not be part of law. :)

There is also another duty increase set for April which will also be subject to VAT.

Got to admit I'm a little confused of the oil price anyway.

It's priced in dollars, and the dollar has gone down in value. So it takes more dollars to buy the same oil. Relative to other currencies has it gone up?

Just because the dollar is shafted do we have to pay more?

But VAT is calculated inclusive of duty on all duty-qualifying items...not just fuel?!

The VAT you pay is based upon the price you're paying for the fuel (ie. the cost the forecourt are selling it for). The forecourt won't be paying the duty directly - they'll have bought it for a fixed "per litre" price from their supplier...and will be charged VAT according to this price.

The duty payable is right back at the "import" stage - it is part of the cost to supply that product into the UK.

Rob.

i support the protest as its the only way to get your point across in this country, no doubt they will all get arrested or MI5 will have a quiet word with them and talk them out of it.

Over 70p a litre goes to the government, the papers at the weekend said they could afford to drop the price by 9p a litre, well if we said fuel is 40p plus vat will make it about 49p and to be generous i would give the government a further 20p and say thats a fair price not what we care currently paying. Oh before i forget f--k green peace and all the enviromentalist too, you want battery cars look at the damage theyve done in the arizona desert near to the plant the hibrid car batteries are made and how much co2 is produced by the power stations to charge these things, enough said..

Dont think the government will be caught with its pants down this time if there is another protest, it took a while for them to get the riot police out at local refinerys last time, things have changed now any sign of a vehicle near to any entrance is pounced on, mostly due to terrorist threat

it be go slow rolling roads and it will bring the country to a standstill, much easier than blocking oil refineries ;)

And best of all , it won't bring the country to a standstill at all.

Had some of that last time , forklifts and plant, very slow movin, made local news, pity not everyones up for it

better idea half inch of snow that stops the country

it be go slow rolling roads and it will bring the country to a standstill, much easier than blocking oil refineries ;)

Go slow rolling road blocks around here will actually mean the traffic will be moving faster than normal! Bring it on :D
