Fun cheap car

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any suggestions for something cheap, fun & car shaped?

Im thinking something that can be kept off road mon-thurs and taken for a spin at the weekend.

Criteria so far is:

<£1000

Shortlist:

Honda CRX

Peugeot 106 rallye (good 205's seem to be >£1000)

Nissan Primera GT (big, but have heard good things about)

+Others....

So the question is have I missed any cars that I should consider?

how about a good example MK 1 Golf Gti ??????

Toyota MR2 mark 1 or 2

Peugeot 205 GTI

Renault 5 GT Turbo

Fiesta RS Turbo

Citroen AX GTi / Saxo VTR

Double your money and you could get a leggy VW Golf VR6

Golf mk1 GTi

MR2 mk1

I like the VR6 but this is a cheap and cheerful attempt at a second car - if I go much over the £1k mark I'll start to consider trading in the fabia.

Cheers guys.

This is a no-brainer.

MX5 / Eunos Roadster import

Seconded for the MX5 :) They are cracking!

Mk2 GTi 16v :)

MX5 / Eunos Roadster import

Ive driven the MX5 mk2 and it was very good.

I didn't think the mk1s could be had for £1k. I'll go and have a look.

If the second car route costs too much I'll be off to look at a vx220 which is what I wanted in the first place but had to do 25,000 miles pa so bought the fabia vrs. Happy as its made me I want more :D

Depends if practicality is a concern. For this budget, I'd also consider an Almera GTi.

At this price point, and occassional use, I'd go for Jap every time :)

Another call for an mx5, puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

Rover 600 turbo :)

Your 600 looks really good Lummox!

Everything good seems to be over £2k :(

I'll keep looking for now.

Old Mini? Some lightly breathed on ones for that sort of budget. Citroen AX GT? 3-series? Alfa?

mmm old Mini Cooper, good call :)

To buy an old mini in reasonable condition, youve got to be very lucky to get one for sub £1000.

I vote trade the fabia and buy the vx.

I have just got a S1 elise, it really is one of the best cars I have ever driven, and quite possibly the most fun.

I recon it is like an old mini, but quicker. It is an everyday useable sports car.

Over on the PistonHeads forum, they have a weekly trawl of the Autotrader etc. to find a great car for less than £1000.

Last week it was an MX5 (Eunos). One of the forum members actually contacted the seller as a result of the article and bought the car.
