The old hesitation after remap problem

Featured Replies

I have read somewhere that the ECS N75 is a standard H version rebranded and sold on at a huge mark up, can anyone confirm this as I am thinking of getting a standard H for my car as they only cost £32

  • Have a look on the US MKV forum, understand you have a MKI Octy but you may be interested to know that the TFSI engine has similar issues..........they also link to MKIV forums so will be worth a look

  • Ace keep us updated mate. I've got a stratmosphere DV on mine at the mo so might be keep to swap it for another DV if it does the trick.

  • Think F is the latest one, the J is similar to the ECS one causes boost spikes,

AFAIK and i have read a lot of posts about this valve and i have even contacted Ecs myself the offical word is the ecs valve is a modified n75h. Now by modified iam not sure how you can modify one.

I know some are sent out with the vag part numbers ground off and some still have the n75h part numbers still on.

Iam a n75j fan myself and love a good boost spike, after fitting mine the car felt to pull harder and held boost very slightly better than the standard. Some hate the J valve though .

p.s i gave my car a good ragging today and its still fine, a decent boost spike tapering off nicely, hesitation i felt must have been just in my head.....maybe.

I'm now getting this boost hesitation following a remap :(

Having read the entire thread and the possible cures, I already have a Forge 007, Forge TIP, new Coils, NGK Iridiums, cleaned throttle body, N75j fitted :(

I am getting exactly the same symptoms as Mart, have tried the original N75 and the problem is still there :(

I know the map has been used on another vRS previously with no problems. Wondering if there is anything else I can try.

Anyone have this problem return?

well my problem has completly disappeared since my new map. I do now have a little part throttle hesitation but i put this down to running higher pressures through the rev range. It really does seem that some cars like the same remaps but others don't.

So you had a new map which cured it - was this a custom map for your car?

My map was ChippedUK, they took my standard settings and resent a new remap (30 minute job) just wondering if it's worth me going back and having the standard map re-applied and then going for a full custom map in the future (set up on a rolling road etc)?

Whats the problem with your current map, Bjorn?

No not a custom map, i can't afford one.

I would get back to chippeduk about it.

If you can afford it custom would be the way to go imo, at least you know everything is running ok when its finished.

pointless doing a custom map on what is pretty much a standard car.

I'm getting the hesitation/pulsing on boost since the remap was done :(, identical symptoms to others here.

martin is right. it seems to be be hit and miss with the vrs. some cars seem to run maps fine yet others dont like it.

Yeah it is strange, just makes you think is there something different between the ones that are fine and the ones that are not? - I know for sure, a friend had his 2005 Octy vRS mapped 2 weeks before mine with ChippedUK and is running absolutely fine, yet mine doesn't??

Did they release a different ECU revision? Is it age dependant - is it restricted to the older Octy vRS' - just doesn't make sense why some just 'don't like remaps'?

no one seems to know why its so hit and miss. there are so many things on the vrs that can cause the issue!! its just a case of going through them 1 by 1.

i know martin tried a lot of things on his and from what he told me it did get better but never 100% but as ive read now it seems to be sorted.

True - and that's the problem, most things Martin fitted to resolve the problem I already have fitted prior to the remap :(

The one major difference is I have mine decatted, not sure if this will be the cause? It was decatted following the remap?

I suppose all I can do is go back to the original map for now, as I don't know what else to do.

Wouln't changing to a non std n75 that increases boost effect re-mapped cars in the long run? i noticed a few stage 2 mapped cars on this thread which will bring boost upto 1.3 1.4 bar which is the safe limit of k03s turbos, so by putting more thru it 1.5 say would seriously reduced the turbos life no?? and what do the tuners like star performance/jabba ect say on this matter because if its something forum members have done off there own backs without testing by recognised specialised

then long term it could be very costly.

I would like mine smoother but i a'nt doing somthing that has not been extensively tested by proper engineers first.

On the way home today I thought I'd test to give me an idea of the extent of the hesitation.

Joined the motorway and basically accelerated from 30mph in 5th, up to 80 - the hesistation came in very noticeable pulses all the way to 80, it felt like it was pulsing between 2 boost pressures if that makes sense - Hi - Low - Hi - Low?? Very weird. Certainly not random as I first thought.

Repeated the same test up a steep hill from low speeds up to 60 and did the same!

I'll refit the N75j to see if the symptoms alter at all.

Mart, is this how yours behaved?

I've got a n75J and am not even getting 1.2 bar. The difference is very small and the reason i used it was to try and iron out the boost spike.

No mine was very different all i got was a boost spike which dropped to a momentary hesitation then all was fine. I have heard of your problem its very common.

Had Same Poroblem Octivia Vrs 230bhp Remaped Hose Collapsed Internal Blocking Turbo. Power Pack N0 2 Intermitent Fault No Dashlights Shown Scanned Found Fault

I have this problem too, or something like it with standard map, on light throttle in any gear (worse in 2nd and 3rd) i get a big sort of splutter which is getting worse day by day. Also notice that it sometimes seems to pulse up the rev band and seems to have loads of boost low down but not high up rev band, going try a new n75 and see if this helps.

I was asked to test the the DV and fit the original one by the mapper, did this and when testing the car felt less powerful but the surging was less - but after 5 minutes it returned :( Also was asked to check the Plugs, but it has new NGK Iridium plugs fitted - unless the gapping is incorrect, not sure if this would affect the boost in this way.

Thing is I'm sure I can here a deeper exhaust note momentarily when the surging occurs on part throttle?? On full throttle I don't hear it as the surging is very noticeable and audible.

Although I've had an uprated Downpipe/Decat it definately isn't leaking - the sound seems to be coming from the engine direction, wondering if a collapsing hose could cause this?

  • Author

I don't think there is one that can collapse. originally on the 1.8t the TIP was know to collapse but the recent models and including the vrs have a metal TIP onto the turbo so no chance.

Okay cool - rules that one out thanks :).

I read somewhere about fitting a larger capacity Vacuum cannister solved someones surging, has anyone tried this?

Did some reading on seat-cupra.net - seen mentioned as possible causes, Fuelling problems or timing too far advanced?

I have VAGCOM what would I need to do to get some monitoring going to check boost pressure etc, and see what's going on? (I've only ever cleared codes/done TB reset) Would this even tell me anything worthwhile? :)

Cheers

yes i tried the vac mod it didnt work for me. I would be having another word with your mapping guy again.

Hi!

Turbo boost creep and spiking

I think this the answer for our problem.

I have an Octy MkI 1.8T 150HP and after remapping to 185HP (O.CT) I had the

same hesitation problem in all gears (more easily noticeable in 4th and 5th).

After trying many unsucessful hardware mods I made a measurement with VAG-COM and it was clear the the turbo pressure slightly overrun the desired then fell back and up again... I am pretty sure that there are different wastgates in the different cars (even with same engine codes) and this causes the problem. The wastgate simply can not act as fast as needed and/or can not bypass the necessary amount of "air".

Opening (porting) the hole may be a solution but I would never do that with mine. I decided to get rid of the remapping and it is OK again. Of course if the boost pressure was

set to a little smaller it would be a good solution too but at least here in Hungary it is hard to find a professional and flexible tuner to do that.

I really can not understand why tuners do not know (or tell) the real reason of this problem. I tried with O.CT but the gave my money back instead of solving the problem...

I hope this helps you guys!

Regards

Attila
