Tyres for Octavia II ?

Featured Replies

I've mentioned these before but no one has commented.. Nankang NS2 (not to be confused with the awful NS1).. Many sizes available... around £50 a corner. Great reports from those that have them... May try a set when mine are due for replacement.

I thought those were just for the 'Max Power' brigade who couldn't afford anything else having put 17" wheels on their Corsa?

Cheapest is seldom the best; surely?

Not at all... Plenty of beemer drivers on the forum I frequent were raving about these tyres... fitted to many an M3, 330ci etc.. The Falkens arent' that much more, are they?

Hmm; very interesting.

I have just bought a set of 17" alloys for my vRS to run as 'winter wheels' and am looking for a set of good value tyres for them, as opposed to the top quality/high price Michelins I have at present. I'll have to do some research into the Nankings.

Don't be put off by negative views of the NS1 - they were a truly shocking tyre by all accounts.

Is it okay to post to other sites? If not, please do remove this but if you go to this site and search for NS2, you'll find positive comments... Here's one thread:

Found this thread on a Merc forum with a very mixed bag of responses about Nankangs;- Nankang NS-2 Tyres - MBClub Forums The only point agreed on was that they are cheap. Some positive comments on Falkens though - I think that is where I will be heading unless I can get some Vredestein Sessantas locally.

The local tyre guy i use and trust said he uses Goodyear Eagle F1's evry time as the best all rounder. So when i change my tyres next year i will take his advice due to the noisy bridgestone turanzas on now and had the same problem on my last car (Mk2.5 Mazda MX-5)

Thanks bahnstormer vrs . I 'll check out the exaltos ... BTW ,is it Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 OR Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 ? :P

Thanks .

PE2 = Pilot Exalto 2.

Having run these before, I now run Falken 452 and they are, so far, just as good for a lot less money. They are also wearing really well.

"Mixed" being the operative word there.. But did you read all 3 pages? I thought they came out rather favourably..... I find this whole debate really interesting - its very subjective, each to their own. If they wore out quickly due to their "quality", then they'd wear out for everyone, same as, but clearly one guy (at least) found them lasting alot longer. I'm sure its true for every type of tyre - depends on so many factors at the end of the day... No doubt you'd find negative comments of the Falkens from some...

It all comes down to what one is prepared to pay... I've read enough to be quite happy trying a set of NS2 when mine go... Hopefully that will be some time yet on the vRS, what with her being just 2 weeks old tomorrow!

Has anybody used Vredestein sportac 3 tyres on a m2 Octavia 140 bhp Elegance?, been offered deal of 4 for £325 fully fitted.

hey guys , due to the lack of choice in India i got fitted Bridgestone Turanzas ER300s ... They are doing good, much better than the Michelin MXV8s .

thanks .

Michelins are pretty good. Are your tyres genuine?

Yes they were genuine . I purchased them from the Authorized dealer . I cant say about any other Michelin product but believe me the MXV8S are poor tyres ... They were very noisy on mostly all kinds of roads , ride comfort was OK(initally very poor but was better once the car was done 2000 kms) ... Handling poor , very expensive at Rs.8300/tyre(the MRP is Rs. 10000/each) there are many other ,better options at half the cost ... Overall i give :thumbdwn:

If you try hard, you can find Falkens in the NCR. PM me if you need any help, I'll try my best.

Thanks Shuvd ,if possible please let me know the shop where i can find the falkens FK-452s ? they are getting excellent reviews everywhere , although now i 've purchased the ER300s but if i find them i would still like to go with them ...

I changed my tyres to TOYO T1 R, road noise is intrusive on these otherwise excellent cars (worse than on mk1 OCty) The Toyo's use a softer compound which will not last so long but was a real improvement noise wise and they improve drive. (Vedersteins are also very quiet but more expensive). I also had some body damping padding fitted in mine to shut out external noise.

I remain dissapointed that Skoda did not think harder about noise intrusion in this car... it lets it down and they still appear to ignore constant comments that appear about the level of road noise... mine was new 18 months ago and there were already loads of comments about instrusive road noise.

sorry.. meant Toyo Proxes.... but my comments about the soundproofing apply whatever tyre you use..

I've had the sportrac3 tyres on the front of my Superb for about 2000 miles now , i paid £175 for the pair . there is a big difference now over the original dunlops ,the car feels more stable, positive steering and grips much better , the rain doesn't seem to affect the grip.

Dunlop Sport 01A (stock = pants) < Bridgestone Potenza S-03 (waaay better than the dunlops) < Falken FK452 (ZOMG these tyres PWN)

I have just had a pair of Semperit Speed-Comforts put on my Octy Ambiente, done 400 miles with them and first impressions are pretty good, super in the wet and dry and pretty quiet too. £59 each fitted IIRC.

What size, 15', 16', 17' or 18'?

What is your road noise impression compared with previous tyres and what were your previous tyres?

I've had a lot of Semperit tyres long time ago. They were great tyres but bit noisy.

There is a nice sounding Avon on Tyre-Shopper. AV ZV5 91V

This is for the standard 16" wheel 205-55. £60 per corner, fitted, balanced and with new valve. Anyone know anything about this one?

Avon make makeup, sold by little ladies on your doorstep. ;)

What is the Z for in ZOMG?

Falken 452 FTW required perhaps?

Erm that's about the same price as the 452 in your size.

15", previous tyres were mega budget ditch finding Hero tyres, which sounded like a coffee grinder on all but the smoothest tarmac.

The rears are the standard Pirelli's (?) which everyone slates and the Semperits are a lot quieter.

yeh and don't collect their fecking catalogues - littering the place with rubbish
