Yes.

You owe this tit no favours at all , so get his insurance company details and make a claim direct with them.

There's every chance that he won't pay up , or will haggle over the cost if you try and avoid a claim , so don't mess around.

i got my insurance docs here, but that means i've got to rummage around for my paper part of my licence. i just want to get it done, hes offered 250 and i said i'd need to find out how much it will actually cost. i know where he lives. i just need to get a rough quote, he seemed apologetic enough, when he bumped into it i was out, and he left his number on my windscreen saying sorry.

i mean we both decided not to go through the insurance.

£250 is way too cheap, even if you do supply the bumper, the painting alone will cost that as they will have to blend the colour into the bonnet and front door.

I agree with Alex - if you want the car fixed without having to worry if he's going to pay, claim direct through *HIS* insurance. Your insurance do not need to be involved.

You'd be surprised how much it's going to add up to as well - I doubt £250 will cover it.....

Chris

£250 won't pay for the parts and a decent spray job at a reputable body shop.

Even if it's just a wing and bumper (you already having one makes no difference) that's way over what he's proposing.

I'll say it again - Don't do him any favours , claim off his insurance.

lets put this into perspective.

mine is going into the body shop in the next few weeks for the follwing:

bonet respray

rear bumper respray

door mirror cover spraying

all the panels are fine with no damage except the door mirror which I am supplying.

the cost for labour and paint is £360.00 :o

hth

From working at a bodyshop, £250 will not even cover the painting, let alone the wing, fitting etc.

Why get it bodged, its not your fault, and to get it done on the cheap will cause problems later if you get problems with the match of the paint being off.

He is probably on a large excess and wants to get away with it.

As others have already said "Go through his insurance", you have done nothing wrong.

Get it done at an approved bodyshop, and you get a five year warranty on paint.

well i went to the bodyshop after being told 250 wasnt enough got a quote the door needs blending with the front wing and the whole bumper would need respraying, and the wing would cost 80 quid - total quote was 647.66 labour 305.20, paint 166, parts 80, vat 96.46 soo im so glad i didnt take 250! hes on the phone to his insurance now i think he must of thought it would cost less...

turns out hes had a company car for 15 years, and only just got his own inurance... so hes got 5 weeks til having his own insurance for 2 years! hes recomended me to somewhere else to get a quote wich ill do tomorow. and then well go from there his excess is 350. but thanks for telling me not to go with the cash. ill let you know how it goes:)

Go through the insurance and go to Listers bodyshop, just off the ring road (J3 I think). Skoda-VAG Approved, and they did an excellent job on my A3.

are they the ones just past the VW garage? because they were really rude to me last year!!

No, other side of town.

So, yes, just past the VW dealer.

If they were rude that's surprising as they were *excellent* 2 years ago and the work they did was faultless- and I'm picky. I dealt with a chap called Chris- can't reemember his last name.

I had a repair done at Listers a couple of years ago - repair was good (if pricey). They got mileage wrong on courtesy car which could have been a pain but luckily someone else in the office could verify the mileage.

I wonder if you're thinking of the Skoda Dealer (Prestige) on Lockhurst Lane? They don't have a body shop though- they sent me to Listers.

yeah he told me it was un ethical to respray a vRS bumper and fit it to my car, and it was the way he was speaking to me, there was no need for the stuck up ness of it all, this was last year. i wasnt impressed. :thumbdwn:

Someone reversed into my last car and dinted the rear door on the passenger side a while ago, it was just a small dint and scrape. It cost her £670 to repair that and that was just pulling the dent out and a respray

the body shop told me if it wasnt possible to pull the dent out they will get a new wing, but theres a certain crease on the fabia wing, i dunno if they will be able to fix it properly without replacing the wing...hmmm:O:(

Why are you trying to get it done on the cheap ??

I could understand that if it was your fault and you were trying to save money, but the third party caused it, so let his insurers pay for it, if it was the other way, would he be prepared to accept a second rate job, that will cause problems later?

Very few, if any, bodyshops now employ panel beaters, as its cheaper and more cost effective to the insurers and the bodyshop just to change a panel.

Get it done properly at an approved bodyshop that will change the panel, and give you a paint warranty in writing for at least five years, the good ones will do this as a matter of fact.

Also, get the money from him first, for whats to stop him refusing to pay, and even stating that the accident was not even his fault after the repair is completed.

Have you notified your insurers of "ALL" accidents as per your policy??

I cannot understand why you are going out of you way to get it done for nearly half of the original quote????

And that should mean 'Skoda UK approved' if you want to keep your 10 year corrosion warranty.

My Dad once accepted a repair under these circumstances, rather than go through the insurance, and it was crap. The headlamp was glued, the wing was an aftermarket one, and the paint finish poor. I'd really strongly suggest you go to an approved bodyshop, get an estimate, then give him the choice of paying up, or informing the insurers.

There's a lot of crappy bodyshops out there:

Ibiza Bodging for Begginners

So be careful. I learnt the hard way.

Agreed. It was the other bloke's fault. I would just refuse and ask for his insurance details. His issues with insurance are nothing to do with you, and I tap as an ex-company car user myself - that was 18 months of my life in a Matiz I would love to have back:mad:

You need this to be good not only because your car with look naff but it will take away money from your trade in.

Don't be friendly.

Slight thread detour!

Why TF are you ex-company car drivers moaning about the insurance? If you drive your company car reasonably and don't have crashes every 5 minutes it all counts! At least towards your driving history. You may also be able to get a no claims letter off them. If not, ask around.....

J.

Ex-company car owner who kept his own car on the road at the same time. Thus avoiding Insurance issues.
