Metal Water Pump & other issues

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone.

Had my vRS now for 2 months and loving ever minute so far :). I've just got a couple of questions if someone would be able to help me out.

Im getting the cambelt changed and (thanks to this forum) going to replace the water pump with a metal one. Where can you buy one from? will my local garage be able to source one for me or are they a specialist part. Ive searched the forum but can't really find a post regarding where to get them from.

I have the wonderful mooing noise when reversing. I have a months warranty left on the car, is it worth getting the pads replaced under warranty to help stop the noise..will they replace them under warranty?

Finally, had a major DOH! moment the other week. Parked the car in the garage after doing the weekly shop and just about to open the boot when my wife says, mind the boot lid on the garage door...it'll be alright I thought..oh how i wish i'd listen :(. I manage to scrape a tiny amount of paint off the spoiler..really annoying. Is there a cheap way of repairing the spoiler, its not major, just really annoying when you know its there.

Thanks for your help

Shane

Hi

You cannot get the water pumps from a dealer with the metal impella

Try GSF or Euro car parts for it

As for the scrape

Try a touch up

Pads are not covered via warranty as it is classed as wear and tear

Hope that helps you

As Sarah said use a touchup pen for the spoiler. I had exactly the same problem with my garage door - I knew it would hapen eventually. Touchup pen worked fine and you can't see it now - just make sure you only apply a bit at a time and build it up in thin layers if necessary.

The brake mooing is a known warranty issue, and it's not just down to the pads - my advice would be to get it fixed by the dealers whilst your warranty's still in force, as I had it done on my car and while I'm not entirely sure what they did, the shiny things that appeared on the inboard side of my rear calipers can't have been cheap! The cambelt / water pump change would probably be cheaper to be done in a separate trip to an indie garage unless (like me when I had it all done) you have a whole of other things you want looked at and can't spare the time for multiple trips...

Hope this helps!

I had the mooing problem for months they replaced the pads but the mooing came back after about a week ,I finally gave the the hint to replace the pads and discs at he same time ,as well as putting some copper grease behind the pads and since then I havent had any problems at all.

The problem went on mine after changing to grooved discs and decent pads

I got my metal waterpump from an audi dealer in a VAG box and the part number was 045121011H

I'm not in the same league as yourselves as I only drive a TDi Octavia but I had mine serviced recently at a main dealer and I needed a new cam belt and they supplied me with a new water pump with a metal impeller so it is possible to get them from Skoda dealers you just have to make sure you ask them to fit the one with metal blades.

But I would second another post on this thread about using an independent if you can you'll save a shed load of cash. My final bill (after discounting from the dealer) was over £1k for a 20K variable service, cam belt change, water pump new discs all round and new pads all round and to add insult to injury two days after getting it back the starter motor died which cost another £200.00 to replace.

Not cheap this car owning malarky is it. And now my rear bushes have gone and need replacing so more expense, it's become a real money pit this year, if I could afford to I would swap it out but I'm stuck with it for now.

Just want to say a big thank you for all your help, this forum is great .

My plan of action is to contact my local Skoda dealer (Clock Garage i think) to see if they will fix the mooing under warranty, get a touch up pen for the spoiler and for the cambelt/water pump, buy the pump myself and let my local (non delaer) mechanic do the work.

Thanks again for the info.

Cheers

Thsi is the improved plastic one i think.Vag have revised the pump many time since it was brought out so in theory it should be stronger now.

so the metal ones are between £20 & £30, out of curiosity how much are the plastic ones roughly?

cheers.

The one I ordered is a metal impeller for the Golf 1.8T & Audi 1.8T, engine code AGU, AUM and AUQ

06A-121-011T (not TX)

VW Golf Mk4 1.8 Water Pumps - VW Golf Mk4 1.8 Water Pump metal

Is this one correct?

Yes thats perfect.Although its not genuine as the genuine one is plastic.

Vw have revised the water pump eight times since first production.

Latest is 06A 121 012X

I got a metal impellered one from my local main dealer.

I asked to look at it before it was fitted to be sure.

Mine is a fabia though, I don't know if it is the same one as fitted to the Octavia.

If the part has an "X" on the end it denotes exchange until

Same part just exchange , and this can make it cheaper
