Superb's DX Sat nav

Featured Replies

I have recently purchased a New Superb with built in sat nav, only just recieved the Disc after a couple of weeks wait. It seems to be a very basic Mapping system, I'm new to using Sat Nav, I was wondering if there is a better version Disc I could use? one that shows Gatso locations, accepts postcode entry, or TMC etc. The disc I recieved is Blaupunkt 2007/08 version UK street map.

Anyone advise Please?

Sounds like the most recent disk.

The unit isn't all that swish tbh, its just a basic sat nav. :(

The DX satnav does recognise postcodes - up to a point. And that point comes short of the last two letters. Feed the postcode (except for the last two letters) as if it were the name of a town and that will get you to the area you want, if not the exact location.

Make sure that you get the TMC-enabled data disk. DX UK data disks are currently available both with and without TMC being enabled. The TMC-enabled version gives you real-time traffic updates which are automatically taken into account when the satnav calculates the route, and this is well worth having.

Sounds great - Tarzey. How does the system do this (what does it connect to?)and where can one get the disc?

You simply have to make sure that you have the correct disk.

This disk is TMC-enabled in the UK (but not Ireland, north or south),

This disk is not TMC-enabled.

The TMC transmissions are carried by Classic FM so you do need to be in a Classic FM reception area for the system to work - but you do not have to be listening to Classic FM, or indeed any radio station, for the TMC to work. You merely have to be in a Classic FM reception area.

The DX unit is very old but it looks a heck of a lot better in the dash than stuck onto the windscreen like some units......

I've got the DX unit in mine. Have to agree it looks a whole lot better than after market stuck on screen! Sadly I still have tom tom as I find DX so unreliable! Example is I live in Hereford, DX recognises Hereford but none of the street names it lists are actually in Hereford! Anyone elses do this? Mine is a 55 plate car, maybe there is later disk!?

Ben.

I occasionally go to the Three Counties Hotel in Hereford to attend lectures and I put the address in when I went in the Superb for the first time and I found it in the sat nav.

If the wife isn't working, she spends the day in the town shopping (without me, whew!) and we go to one of the supermarkets afterwards to stock up and I've found these addresses in the sat nav as well.

My disc is 2006/07, but I agree it is not the most user-friendly. I've used it in various locations in the UK and in France and it's served its purpose.

I too like that it's built in and the display in the panel in front of the driver is easy to follow.

Perhaps I need to update to latest disk! To be fair, i know Hereford like back of hand anyway, been driving a taxi round there for last 4 years. Just an example! Know 3 counties well, about 500 yards from my front door!

the TMC will only work if you have the TMC reciever as well as the satnav box ,it is a separate box and needs the sat nav to be coded to know it is installed ,I dont know if TMC is standard on sat nav equipped superbs

A DX-equipped Superb certainly does not require 'a separate box' for TMC to work; it merely requires a TMC-enabled data disk and reception of a TMC-transmitting FM radio station (in the UK, Classic FM) as per my earlier post.

Hmm, when I come over on Friday, can you show me your satnav Baker, would like to see if its a worthwhie addition to Patsy... :)

Actually it does, if the Superb has factory fit sat-nav it will have this anyway.

If the unit has been retro-fitted it wont be able to use tmc or the maxi-dot display.

No problem mate......it's definately worth it mate......especially if you wire a PS2 Slimline into it like I have.......LOL!!!

What DVD player you running mate and how good is your audio quality?

Forget what make it is with out looking. Audio quality is really good, it is certainly better with the engine off, picks up a little bit of background hiss with engine running! But i'm always parked up when watching it so have the engine off anyway. Car is a taxi, spend far to long parked up waiting!!

Ben.

Any details on how to hook up a dvd player to the DX screen?

Does it use the Aux input? If yes, where do you get the adapter?

Many thanks

I have a similar problem with the audio, stationary it's fine but if your moving it could be a lot better but still it's better than nothing!!

The DVD simply plugs into your AUX facility and this is an easy set up to fit into your Superb....all depends on what DVD player you buy for the wiring....

The Aux input on the back of the DX unit is a DIN plug (I think). I've not seen any DVD players with this type of output.

Is an adapter of some sort needed?

Thanks

As I suggested in my recent post it depends on what type of DVD player you have?

I have a VW Multimedia Interface box that links my PS2 into the AUX plug on the DX unit but on other types of DVD players you will need a different box....

these are the superb versions

main reason i have not fitted one in the three cars I have retrofitted with satnav is there are so many variations and tying the tmc box version to the satnav version is difficult

Cheers Tarzey, but Jeez - £115 for a disc???? I'll stick to the TomTom for difficult situations!

Good point, well made.

It is often possible to pick up DX data disks on Ebay. Any DX disk will work, including Mercedes-Benz. Having said that, UK TMC-enabled disks have only recently been available for the last six months, so there are probably not too many around as yet.
