Weird cable found in dash - what is it?

Featured Replies

I've been looking on Etka and I'm fairly sure it's phone prep. My roof aerial has three outputs (sat nav, radio and I'm guessing phone).

I've just had a trawl through one of the PDF's which I downloaded a few weeks ago and it looks to be the aerial for the factory-fit mobile phone system.

cd changer? carphone? straw for driver refreshment?

Hmmm... Bit tricky that as there's 39 of them and they total 311Mb.

Anyone know of any file hosting sites I could upload them to?

sounds perfect for a torrent :-)

God knows why though, as a cab it will have been looked after much better than most cars

Must be the most comprehensive load of complete bo**ocks I've ever read on a forum I think.

I am a taxi driver, I own a company with 140 other taxi drivers in it.

Our cars have to undergo a much stricter MOT than normal cars, and thats from day 1 not 3 years down the line, our cars are our livelihood and we maintain them regardless of cost, one nights lost work due to poor maintenance would wipe out any saving due to scrimping so it just isn't worth it.

is someone confusing taxi's with mini cabs again...?

Is there a difference?

Is there a difference?

yes taxcis are the proper ones that are allowed to pick you up anywhere and are controlled and vetted properly.

mini cabs are the bags of spanners that seem to have no control/standards/ethics.

So private hire is a mini cab, and Hackney is a Taxi?

The required standards for both private hire and hackney carriage are the same.

The only difference is a you can flag down a Hackney carriage (Taxi) and they can tout for business.

Whereas a private hire vehicle such as a minicab or wedding car, executive transport etc must be booked in advance through an operator.

In truth these days, the Hackney carriage is a dying trade, overtaken by the convenience offered by private hire companies who often have warm town centre premises for customers to wait in safety, modern conveniences like text booking and ringback (where you get a missed call to let you know cab is outside) rather than stand on the street and hope to flag down a taxi.

With the new European legislation slowly being adopted across the country, it is wiping all the value off hackney carriage plates as local council's will no longer be able to restrict the numbers issued, which was fueling the illegal black market that currently exists in the sale of plates that are in fact, owned by the council, so basically, the Private hire Vs Hackney war is about to end, as all the private hire guys will apply for hackney plates.

This also makes things alot easier for the public to understand, as alot of people dont know the difference, an honest P/H driver will get abuse for turning people away who have not booked, whereas a dishonest one will just take them, if everyones Hackney, anyone can take anyone!

Well said Johnjohn.

Mine is a Private Hire.

18 months old and had 4 MOT,s.

2 strict ones and 2 normal ones (6 moths apart from each other).

Have to present service records to Bournemouth council too otherwise they will suspend my car licence plate until i can produce them.

Us guys need to maticulously look after our cars more than "Normal" cars on the road.As said before time off the road is a huge loss of money.
