Sorry, was going to post this on knowledge but it's been locked

Anyone got or had or know anything about using an L.P.G. Octavia Vrs? Considering an octy diesel to replace our citroen ,, C5 next year if not sooner,if only I could get out of the damned contract, and I came across this. www.greenfuel.org.uk/cars/ Page 4. Thoughts? :thumbdwn:

Looks like a good buy, especially considering the cost of conversion. For a londoner the

Yes to get off the congestion charge it is a good thing (although you still get sting as you have to register at a cost IIRC). Anyone here want to bet on the tax break for LPG being extended....

I'd look very carefully into this.

There is an issue of compatability between forced induction and LPG.

Approx 2yrs ago one member of SeatCupra.net had his Leon Cupra LPG'd (same engine as OctyRS). Absolute disaster, and even once it was all torn out it took weeks to return it to the previous state of health. :thumbdwn:

Maybe things have moved on since then?

But........Most complaints you hear about Scoobs and Misti Evo's is the crippling fuel consumption. There is a reason why you don't hear about all these guys getting LPG...........

citroen ,, C5

One of the Fastest Depriciating cars in the UK, only loosing to the Vauxxy Omega, though apparantley it's nice and Skoda Superb like to drive. I just thought i'd post to tell u that u wont be getting much cash back on that baby!

yep its all moved on now,the new systems are very very good, and the forced induction issue is not a problem now.

i'll be converting mine in the next few weeks so if you want any info PM me or vice versa.

i'm fitting the kit myself as i've done the qualifiication course with a friend of mine,we've mainly converted Land Rover Discovery's and his TVR Chimera!!!!

the new kits are all direct injection, individual injector per cylinder and the LPG ECU unit connects with just 4 wires and uses the existing ECU for info for firing injectors etc.

you then have to map it via Laptop away you go.

the tank in mine is going to go where the spare is,everyone panics when you say that losing boot space etc but i just think that i'll be saving 50% on my fuel costs.

the tax break is to continue for the next 5 years at least, the duty is to increase 2 pence per litre for the next 5 years.

but in comparison to Diesel and Petrol which will increase at a higher rate it will take many years for LPG to cost more than Petrol.

it took 30 years for Diesel to cost more than Petrol,so you'll still be saving money for many years to come.

when you talk about it people are very dismissive because of boot space etc and people don't like change, just think of the cash saved!!!!

 Bet it's not a fraction as good on the reliability stakes as the superb however.Skoda looks better by a country mile, and colour range vastly superior too. No psa have totally lost the route and a lot of customers now too. Won't have to take the depreciation on the chin however,as it's on contract hire. :) Just wish I could get out of it sooner. They want 2grand for early kick back, with 16 months to go,so I'll just have to put up for now.

suprised the omega is dropping quicker, always struck me as being a half decent motor considering it's GM.

Saw a new astra on the road this morning, not bad lookin' ey? Apparently though bad water leaks in the boot and r light clusters already!

why o why do manufacturers still not getting it right.Surely had enough practice? :( C.J.

Well thats my mind 90% made up then Wrighty RS! Octy vrs est with LPG conversion.Roll on next year. Cheers C.J.

Mate of mine in Ireland had a Lancia Trevi (not a huge seller for some reason?) that ran an domestic Kosangas cylinders in the boot. When he braked hard there was an almighty clang!! from the boot is this normal and safe in eco friendly motors?? :D

When they Designed the Omega, Im sure they all sat in a room and Said, look we need to make a Taxi. It needs to be rear wheel drive so the poor cabbie has to have new tires every 10k. Sure.......Lovley machine..........

Toyota Avensis makes a much better taxi and stays intact when you hit 100k on the clock ^^

Had long discussions with Skoda on this before buying the Diesel, Basically if you fit LPG you have lost your warranty on the Engine & all connected parts if not the whole car. Tried to argue it on all sorts of points including its already done on the continent but basically if you fit it we dont want to know about the car after that

:( Oh,thats not good. Will take that up with my dealer, otherwise plan B..diesel.C.J.

I'm still not convinced about the tax break thing after all anybody trust the government! Diesel's probably just as good as LPG anyway for the money.

CJ before you decide try & get a ride in a remapped Diesel, I think you will be somewhat impressed & the MPG also improves after a remap in general driving & is probably still more economical when being thrashed than a RS being thrashed.

Jon (TaviaRS) has recently had a 130 Diesel mapped to 206bhp with loads & loads of torque.

Also I gather resale values are better on Diesel than LPG because Mr Average feels safer with Diesel & also the Engines are known to last longer

I'm still not convinced about the safety implications of running a duel fuel system. The thoughts of having a gas tank inside the boot (hence the passenger cabin) puts the willies up me personally. Have any vehicles been crash tested with these fitted? A guy at work has 2 x gas tanks slung underneath his Land Rover and again I have concerns should his vehicle be involved in an accident.
