Fabia vRS handling in the wet

Featured Replies

Anyone had problems with handling in the wet?

Which tyres / wheels provide best grip?

Obviously taking the right foot off the gas helps, but my other fabia seems to have better grip in the wet?

Not so much in the wet. Though I find it a rather carp car in the wet. But Snow/Ice is deadly with Eagle F1's. Don't do it. :)

I can second this. They are worse than useless.

I used to have "medium" quality tyres on the front and they were dangerous in the wet.

Last week I put on Avon ZV3's on the front and they have transformed the way the car handles in the wet. I would definitely recommend them.

I think a few people have had ZZ3's put on. The ZV3's are rated V (149mph) while the ZZ3's are W (168mph?)

I think.

ZV3's cost me £65 a tyre all in. Not sure if this is good or not!

Toyo T1R tyres are good in the wet , on standard wheels

Yup, and on 17" wheels too

Third it. They are good full stop.

Interestingly when I had Bridgestones fitted to the VRS i found them to be carp in the wet but on the Roomster they are great.

Uniroyal Rainsports......the answer to all your wet weather problems. :D

Simply silly levels of grip when it's raining. Makes it ideal for when the RARB comes along. ;)

just some advice yokohama parada spec 2 dont work in the wet  when the roads are wet i dont take the vrs out i use my other car, when the roads are wet my stering wheel sops working

My pupils enjoy bouncing the tyres off the kerb at slow speed when coming in to park. Or grinding the tyre wall along the rough kerb stones when doing reverse around the corner.

My tyres don't get a chance to wear down to 1.6mm they get chunks out the tyre wall with 5mm tread still left on them.

Try falken 452 IMHO :)a

Can't comment on the ice performance, but good in the rain and dry.

I have to balance the need for economy against not killing myself when it rains.

Unfortunately the vRS slides when cornering in the wet, it slid a few weeks ago into a kerb at speed and kinda bent some important bits that hold the front wheel on.

So is it cheaper to buy more expensive tyres or rebuild the front of the car everytime it slides off the road in the wet?

Never had this problem with my VRS, it always went where I asked it to go.

Then again I had the Toyos fitted ;)

Paid £67 a corner fitted and they have nice chunky rim protectors on them

Do you ever drive it?

:P

Never found the vRS to be 'dangerous' in the wet, on any tyre. Clearly there's less grip available, so just slow down a touch ;)

T1-Rs or Rainsport1s would be my choices. T1-Rs as an overall tyre. Had F1s on the Ibiza and found them to be very good in all general circumstances. Clearly a 'general use' tyre isn't going to be much use in ice and snow :)

Steve

not a problem on Avon ZZ3's :) (£75 a corner :o)

I have rainsports, more than happy with them..........

You could almost forget it was raining........................ Nah, I'm making that bit up!

Yokohama S306's seem to be not too bad in the wet although i have a friend with the same tyres on her del sol and she claims them to be deadly.

Good tyre; ideally I'd run these during the autumn/winter, then switch to the T1-R for the rest :)

A bit noisier than the T1-Rs IMO though...

Steve

T1-Rs wear out so fast though

Hasn't been my experience really. Of course, any more 'performance' orientated tyre will wear quicker than a more conventional choice. It's the price you pay for good levels of grip :)

I've found them to be as good as F1s/Rainsports/ZZ3s for wear...

Did 18k on the road and about 140 track miles on my set. That's not bad wear at all considering the OEM's only did 16k, the Micchy pilots only did 9k.

The F1's I had fitted last did 19k and I still have them on my spare wheels with about 4mm left on them. They are carp winter tyres though.

Mighty impressive

Coming up for 25k on the original Bridgestone Turanzas, needing two new fronts soon Toyo's the way to go I think.

Seems to be the general view shared by most Brisky Members.
