New vrs

Featured Replies

Hello from greece....

i am getting my octavia vrs next week and i would like to ask you all if i must drive it under 4000rpm for the first miles... and what i must pay attention to.. so that i can have a reliable car for the next years.

i am not into hard driving but i am used to the horse power from my bikes...

thank you all

drive safetly.

I gather running in is not considered neccesary by many but I always treat a new car gently for the first couple of thousand miles & build the revs slowly. Also its not only about revs but also how much work the car is doing, 4000 RPM with the accelerator on the floor trying to get up a hill will heavily load the car although I guess I am stating the obvious.

Oh & good choice of car, I think you will be pleasantly suprised how good it is

The Owner's Manual has this to say about running in:

Up to 600 miles the following rules apply:

Do not use full throttle

Do not drive faster than 3/4 of top speed

Avoid high engine speeds

Avoid towing a trailer, if possible

From 600 - 1000 miles:

It is possible to gradually increase up to the maximum speed of the gear engaged or to the maximum permissible engine speed, respectively.

There is more advice in the Manual, but this should give you a feel for what you should and shouldn't do.

Welcome Ozzy !

Welcome to Briskoda.

welcome! :D

Welcome Ozzy basically don't labour the engine to much for the first 600 miles then gradually open her up, also don't run in at the same speed (Say constant long distances at 70mph) as the engine will have a falt spot at that speed once run in, vary the speed if you can.
