NO no rubber removed, just dried off the water and went crazy with the silicone! left the door cards off for the now and going to do a bit more siliconing tomorrow just to make sure

When you're doing it, could you take us some photies please? Thanks!

Sure you know this one - but for those who don't - there's a neat trick when using silicone.

To make an edge in a corner have a flawless finish - spit on your finger and wipe along it. Looks really pro....

Not very hygienic I'm afraid - but I learnt it off a Canadian Plumber that I watched fixing summat once.....:D

Cheers

It all depends on how good your dealer is :)

Coincidence... just re-done one of my rear doors this arvo.

I thought I'd cured all the leaks last year but recently started to get the dreaded condensation on the windscreen again. All the carpets felt bone dry to the touch but it was only when giving them a good vacuuming the other day that some dampness became apparent - the suction from the Hoover drawing the water from the thick sound deadening upto the surface. Fortunatly it was just the n/s rear and on inspection, it's only been weeping in from one point where I hadn't applied enough silicon last time. Hopefully that's it cured this time!

Oh and it very near cost me nada - that was untill I snapped one of the tabs off the tweeter cover . Hopefully just be a few £'s from the stealers. I'm blaming the cold weather for making the plastic brittle :D.

Water ingress is covered under the original 3 year warranty......not the extended one.

I concur with Basil.

Another tip to make a silicon really good is using masking tape on the things you don't want to look ugly before you use the spit on the finger thing. (Mask off with two pieces of tape in a parallel fashion both sides of the area you want to mask making sure the tape has really stuck, then apply silicone and right after, wipe with your finger.)

BTW, you can just use soapy warm water in a dish instead of spitting on extremities.

Yeah spitting is the trick i use, use silicone all the bloody time at work.

As for pictures theres a guide on fabia-vrs.com theres pictures there but i feel the descriptions maybe need a bit more expanding

Just for absolute clarification is this the sort of sealant I need?

Sanitary Silicone Clear

another person here looking for pics :)

How difficult is it to remove the trim on the inside of the door and replace it, without creating rattles?

It was easy enough to remove, i havent replaced it yet as im waiting to see if its properly sealed first, and i need to go to Skoda to get some of the clips that hold the door card to the door as over time they have became brittle and 3 have broken:thumbup:

just a quick question did u silicone around the whole door or just the bottom half

  • Author

just the bottom half, but i would see no harm doin the top half if you so wished just for added security

surely you don't want to completely seal your back doors, i know it could get drafty after they have been kicked in but wouldn't it be best to attempt to return them to their previous state?
