17705 Fault (Good start to new year)

Featured Replies

Well I have the famous 17705 P1297 Connection turbocharger - throttle valve pressure hose fault code :thumbdwn:

After reading through 10000000000 threads it looks like a number of things:rolleyes:

Oh well start with the cheapest and work the way up

Is your car fitted with the modified Pressure hose from turbocharger to charge air cooler PN 06A 145 790C (£39.96)? This modified hose replaces PN 06A 145 790A in the event that the latter shows damage to the socket of the sealing ring. It is also one of the recommended replacements when fault-finding a 17705 fault code.

I was reading about this in the thread Gaff started in 2004

It's on the list

I never did get to the bottom of this problem on my old vRS. When I lost boost, I just pulled over, stopped and restarted the engine and carried on. It occured so infrequently it was difficult to know if the problem was fixed or not.

I had a number of things changed on mine and to this day its still not rectified, cleaning the throttle body seems to clear it up for a while so might be worth trying that first ;)

Well I can tell/feel I have a problem as it's like a blocked pipe?

Normally if I put my foot down it's :D on my face but now it's

I can feel the car holding back even at low revs?

I have done Throttle-body Realignment but was thinking about this hose :rubchin:

I have had a new FMIC installed but not sure if this hose is near any that?

I had this when i had my Octy.

Changed the pressure hose that has been mentioned and only had it once after that in a period of around a year.

I did change the spring in my DV about 3 weeks ago so maybe I have done something when this was done :rubchin:

  • Author

well DV was ok(I went back to OE and still the same)

I then cleaned the throttle body and after a quick test drive NO FAULTS ;)

how did you clean the throttle body. ie what products and what method?

Yeah it did look filthy,Good job.

Well the car was better to drive straight away

Lets hope it stays that way

I then cleaned the throttle body and after a quick test drive NO FAULTS ;)

Cool, I reakon that would need to be done once a year :)

Oh well last lasted long........NOT

On the way home from work I went to overtake another car and

Got home hooked it up to Vag-Com and yes it's back :thumbdwn:

I wonder why cleaning the throttle body cleared the fault and made the car drive better :rubchin:

I guess the next thing is the pressure hose?

Ok just been looking at the sticky thread and Jos posted this

I don't recall any gap in mine when I cleaned it?

Can the flap be moved by hand or is it set in this position for a reason?

Mine was solved by changing the pressure hose.

Why dont we start a poll with all the suggested solutions and see what change seemed to work best ?

Good idea

I have been talking with Jabba about this and yes it's a very common fault of which the throttle body cleaning normally does the fix.

It is however random at the moment that the car runs fine then runs like standard boost :thumbdwn:

It does also relate to cold weather(Once the car is warm it is fine to drive)

I guess when my next service is due I'll get the pressure pipe changed and just keep an eye on it.

Roll on the summer :D

I did this on the way home today and it was like you found ;)

I got to my open road and put my foot down  pulled over and restarted the car and :D

I just need to find the reason that when the car is cold there is no boost untill I restart the engine

  • 2 weeks later...

A lot of these faults sound familiar. I asked some similar questions about a year ago but only received a few answers. Following my Jabba remap I often get loss of boost (I'd say 30% of the time I start the car) which is corrected by recycling the ignition. I don't know that it is a 17705 fault as I don' have VAGCOM. I'm assuming it is. I've done all the throttle body cleaning stuff that Jabba sugested, when I have had it checked out there are no fault codes for the MAF. I have been living with it but I'm very frustrated and would like to sort it out. I'm a bit confused about all the possible hoses that it may be so can anyone clarify what would be the most obvious one to take a look at first, where it is etc. ??

If you had vag-com you would be able to do logs.

These logs are invaluable to finding the causes of these sorts of problems.

Logs such as boost pressure (requested and actual),bhp/torque,O2 sensor readings and Maf readings.

This would certainly be a start for some of us who cannot actually see the car and maybe a worthwhile purchase in the future.

I have vag-com but I just don't understand WHY I can drive the car first thing in the morning with NO boost?

Drive 5 mins up the road stop turn the engine off and start up again with full boost

I have some new hoses and pipes that will be changes over the next couple of days and I'll see if there is any change?

I've got the 17705 still!

Bought a new DV to see if it was that, and also just because i wanted one! Fault still there anyway.

But, I don't notice any power loss, and I've never had to pull over and restart for any reason.

I've just accepted it for now, and forget about it until I actually lose power. When I do I guess I'll clean the throttle body, and then gradually change every hose between the turbo and intake until it goes....

Oh, I haven't had the car remapped also. Remapping doesn't increase the pressure within the hoses between turbo and intake does it? Surely not. Well anyway, I was just thinking if your running higher than standard boost, the standard rubber hoses might tend to split or leak more often. Skoda rubber doesn't seem too reliable!

If Jabba, or another specialist, know about this common fault, why don't they research into it and find the actual fault. Then offer a 17705 fixing kit that they would install for many pounds! Could be a nice money maker for a keen specialist.... and of course help us all.

Good idea

When/if I find out what it is then it's going to cost everyone to know

The problem is I don't think it's one specific thing?

People have changes small things and it's worked.

I have done a few (Cheap) things and now I'm onto the pipes(even though what I said in the above post should rule any leak issues?)

Make sure you check all the hoses around the n249 at the front of the engine as these can be known to split.
