2008 Nurburgring Trip 10th to 13th May 2008 - Booking!

Featured Replies

Right - I'm fairly certain of the times now, so this is going to be the itinerary of the 2008 Briskoda nurburgring trip!

Leave Dover on a ferry at 8am - arrive Dunkerque at 11am EU time. :) Travel gently to the Center Parcs at Heilbachsee near the Ring - approx 4 hours driving, maybe 5 with time for lunch - only 250 miles odd - Not much delimited autobahn either.... ;)

Arrive at C.P at about 5pm. Check into the cabin/s, and then nip to the Ring, for the hour and a half session in the evening - can buy tickets and do sighting laps. :) Drinks at the bar in the evening + food.

Sunday and Monday will be full time Ring action. But ultimately, people can do what they like really. No doubt, there will be drinks and food on each evening.

Ferry back from Dunkerque at 4pm on the 13th, arriving in UK at 5pm our time. This time could be flexed to avoid rush hour. Might be able to grab the ferry 2 hours prior. On Norfolkline this trip is currently around £45. :) It will be down to the individuals to book their own ferry through norfolkline. :) LINKY: Norfolkline ferry services to France (cross channel Dover Dunkerque) and Ireland (Liverpool Belfast/Dublin)

Cost? Well, it's looking like the cabins will be 759 euros for the whole period. So this is around £75 per person based on 8 people sharing said cabin for the duration (exchange rate fluctuations possible). This is CHEAP, but ultimately it's just a bed for the night - food and drinks can be had in the bar. Breakfasts and lunches can be grabbed at the Ring, and surrounding areas. Self catering anyway - a degree of fending for ones self

Fuel? Well, you're looking at 250 miles of driving from Dunkerque, so factor in 500 miles of EU driving, whatever you need to get to Dover + ring laps. I'm planning on doing 30 laps over the weekend. I reckon for me, that would be a tank of fuel + another half on track use alone. Food cost will be negligible - perhaps £10 for food, then there's drinks too.

Laps of the ring are approx £14 each. The more you buy the less each lap is. Buying 15 laps works out quite good value. We'll find out exact prices at some stage though. There is also the option of taking out insurance to cover you on the Ring. Personally I'm not going to be going hell for leather, risking my neck and my car - so I am not bothering with insurance on the Ring itself. Best check you have cover for driving in EU though. :)

Everything will be going through me though - I will need 100% commitment from those wanting to go. Please PM me the following details below, and I will PM back how you can pay me the £75 for the accommodation (paypal, bank TR, cheque). Once 8 people have paid me, I will book a cabin at center parcs. Once another 8 pay me, another cabin will be booked - and so forth. :)

DETAILS NEEDED

1) Full Name/s and address

2) Car type and reg (not 100% necessary, but you never know)

3) Contact telephone

Who's up for it? I won't bother PM'ing myself. If any other details are missing

Is that a list of individuals or are they all bringing cars? A note as to who's driving what might be useful too J.

:D Fair play. Have put "DRIVING" by the main person, even though the person below may drive their car, they will officially be passengers for the trip. :)

Just to let everyone know that if they don't get booked and paid by 10th Feb, the price will have to increase by £2 as the 5% discount for early booking passes then. :) At least one cabin will be booked within this deadline, and hopefully if people get their act together ;) two cabins at least will get booked at the cheaper rate.

Well, one cabin full already. :D:thumbup:

just a bone question, the 10th is a saturday yes,we are meeting at dover on the saturday?

  • Author

Yes - per the first post, we all need to get booked on (preferably) the 8am ferry from Dover to Dunkerque, and likewise the 4pm one on the way back.

I'm not expecting everyone to stay in convoy so I'd highly recommend everyone having some form of satnav'ing in Europe, and for those that don't, we'll have small convoys, led by someone who does have it. I'm happy to lead one group as I'll have my tomtom going. I'll also bring 2 walkie talkies so those without nav can keep in touch should convoys get split up. :)

ATM I'm quite tempted to catch the ferry in Hull... it does cost more but it means I don't have to drive down to Dover, so I get more time in bed. :D

  • Author

Doesn't matter. Ultimately all of us could go solo, or in convoys from different ports if needed. Easy enough to meet somewhere like the German border, or just meet at the Heilbachsee resort as long as everyone knows how to get there.. :)

I'm thinking Dover Traveloge/inn/etc the night before!

I'm not fancying a 3+hour drive followed by a Europeon jaunt!

  • Author

I'll be doing 4 hours to Dover, then the EU jaunt - which is only 250 anyway. The ferry is 2 hours (+ queuing) so you get a really good break on the ferry. Plus it's essential to have a damn good fry-up too. ;)

Personally I wouldn't mind going over in convoy... I'm MFD2 equipped now with a whole bunch of european navi cd's... hopefully this will help :)

Jason - sorry to delay payment, still waiting to hear back from my +1!

Not to worry - I'll be slapping it on my credit card, probably wednesday, for the first cabin. That CC bill won't need paying until about the 25th of this month, so there's time still. :)

As much as I'd like to drive there in convoy I really don't want to drive down to Dover, then there is the difference in mileage.

From Hull to (via Dover) C.P is 600 miles, from Rotterdam to C.P is 221 miles... so it doesn't cost that much more to go via Hull (for me anyway) :)

  • Author

There's a chap Liverpool way on the list. He might want to go from Hull as well if it saves on the mileage too. :) As long as all the times work out to get everyone to Center Parcs by about 4.30/5pm on the Saturday, then all is good.

Yeah I noticed Paul was in Liverpool, and some people from the original thread where north of Hull as well, that's why I thought I'd throw this option in :)

The ferry from Hull leaves on the Friday night getting us on the continent for 8am Saturday so plenty of time to cover the 200miles to C.P. For the return journey it leaves Rotterdam the Tuesday night getting back to Hull the Wednesday morning.

Getting the ferry from Hull means a 400 mile round trip instead of a 1200 mile one. :D

Makes economic sense, and you arrived refreshed. If you come in to Rotterdam, we could still meet up somewhere on the German border. I can't remember exactly where we go into Germany, possibly Aachen I think, but might be further south.

It's about £60 more for the both of us to go from Hull, but we get a normal nights sleep before driving on the continent. :D

Looking on Google maps we could easily meet up at Aachen. :D

  • Author

I was proposing stopping at the services at Aachen anyway for a spot of lunch. Will be mid afternoon by then, but most of us should still be digesting the fry-up from the ferry. :D
