I have heard that if your car catches fire then lifting the bonnet is not the wisest of ideas.

I remember going to the Wolfsburg factory in 1968 - an immense place.

The drivers that took the cars the few hundred yards to the 'shipping places' hooned it like you would not believe (one careful owner, sir ).

Apparently they had an average of one accident a month 'all told'.

Drift and ditch theory
