Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Read the autoexpress today on the Sport, the final paragraph in this report was that the engineers were not allowed to get theri hands on th esport to tweak suspenion etc, that these improvements would be in the vRS due in late 08.

So it appears that autoexpress are sticking by late 08 for the new vRS.

Skoda will release something but I reckon it's got to be somethig special as I don't think the current fabia shape will do it any favours.

Davy

Exactly my thoughts, but I reckon they are waiting to utilise the new common rail engines instead of having to switch half way through the cars lfe.

My Skoda Dealer told me its late 2009 before we'll see a Fabia 2 vRS.

Ian:)

It is rather odd (and naive) how a lot of people on here believe a dealer over one of the oldest and most respected Motoring magazines.

The dealer has a vested interest in selling you what they currently have in stock or what they can order not what might come along mid/late 2008 unless they take a deposit and earn the interest on your money.

While the car magazine has no vested interest in selling a future car or not, they purely test them and report the road test or if they have a short term/long term test with it.

Think what would the dealer gain by telling me that the next vRS is so far off considering you have had a car for some time now and may fancy a change?

similarly, what would the dealer gain by telling me that the next vRS is so far off when I've bought a brand new car from them about 9 months ago?

But come off it given that why were you in the dealership looking at new cars?? Seems odd.

Also you must realise that they/he has a vested interest in any discussions with a punter they are in the business of selling cars which gives them commission. He might have been angling for a deposit for the next model from you then again noone in their right mind would change their car within 16 months of purchase so maybe he/dealership were thinking you were a member here and would pass the info on.

Slesmen = Politians = slippery customers & in it for the £ end of.

Most respected?! By whom? Certainly not by car enthusiasts!

What Autocar & Autoexpress one being the oldest weekly in existance and the other the next oldest...

However even saying that why would you take the word of a slippery sales rep?

Odd as it may seem, looking at new cars isn't the only reason to be in a dealership. Especially when it's just round the corner and they're happy (when not busy forcing new cars on people) to chat about all sorts of things.

I would have thought it better for the official line to be sooner rather than later, then that way they keep your interest up.

Completely agree. There are very few trustworthy sources and the only one that is (Skoda) has suggested that it will be late 2009. Still, journo's have to shift their mags somehow ;)

I'm def with you on this one mate:thumbup: Your local Dealer is mine too and NOT ONCE have they try to 'force sale' on me:thumbup:

Ian:)

The dealers are as frustrated as anyone that the vRS is taking so long, and i'm sure you will get some that will try and sell you an 'in between' car untill the vRS comes out. But at the end of the day if it is a vRS you wants they aren't going to have much luck in selling you something else!!!

Had SUK on the phone for another matter but managed to ask the lady about it and she said that it WAS anticipated for later this year, but now it's going to be next year and I did manage to get out of her that there is NO firm decision to release it at all now it has been put back, couldn't get a reason why though?

Ben

Ford...here I come...:D

I can confirm that the reason the Mk2 Fabia vRS has been delayed is because they hav not got an engine for it. I think someone in a earlier post mentioned that the 2.0tdi would not fit and I believe that to be the case as well. Plus VW want to move away from the Pump Duse TDI units and into the Common Rail piezo injection diesel range. So it is highly likely that they are building a 2.0 Common Rail Diesel for the new vRS, shame really because their characteristics are far less fun than the tdi's!!:thumbdwn:.

Hope this clears a few things up.

Regards,

Mark

drinks are on Decron ;)

I reckon I could buy out Whitbread at this rate.

Anyone else want to put a tenner in the jar?

For what its worth I had my vrs mot'd at local skoda dealer today (passed:thumbup:)

Had following conversation with man on service desk whilst settling bill etc

'Is there a new vrs coming out?', cue wry smile, 'nothing official, no one really knows'

when pressed on his 'best guess' he suggested 'probably, guessing, late 2008'

' probably be the 2litre 140' i speculated.....'talk I've heard has been the 170 brake'

was his response. This, admittedly is pure speculation but I do know...

a) he was not a slippery salesman

B) I was not a potential customer (only bought my vrs in oct 07)

Only time and skoda can tell

I dont think the dealers have a clue what there on about!

Street skoda told me the other day it was due out the end of this month but has been put back because of the 2L engine there putting in it.

Platnuim skoda told me they didnt no when it was coming out, but when it did they come with a 200BHP diesel engine and also the 1.8T petrol! Cant see it my self!

I think we need to just wait a bit, Dealers will say anything to either get you to buy now or move along. With a MEGA recession coming they be ONLY too keen before long.

What would we like to see, 1.4 Twincharger with 7 speed DSG..................i suspect it will be 125 BHP version with 6 speed shift stick.

Mike

I'm hoping for a 160HP Diesel and a petrol with a bit of grunt too... given the choice, I'd still opt for the diesel ;)

Are we even sure it'll be a diesel? Sure I read somewhere that is likely to have the 1.4 TFSI engine from the Golf, which normally comes as either 140bhp or 170bhp.

making it a diesel would at least make it different - both compared with other hatches (Clio, corsa etc) and also the Polo GTi

I was reading the sunday mail and the test driver basically said skoda had killed the vRS off and that the sport was the new warm hatch. Tell you he is talking rubbish, I think there has to be a demand for a new one.

Davy

I read in this weeks autocar magazine that the new vRS would be out in 2009 ish

Malcolm

I wonder WHEN we see some details?

Mike

there have been no official hints, no spyshots, no nothing.

I think it's a long way off, if it's coming at all.

I don't think there will ever be a mk2 Fabia vRS. Why? Well, it's because of the body shape. The mk1 Fabia body looked brilliant in vRS guise, the mk2 never will, IMO. The front end is borrowed from the Roomster and therein lies the difficulty. It looks in proportion on the Roomster but just doesn't gel with the lowered roofline of the Fabia. I think it's mission impossible to get a hot hatch appearance from that body shape.

So, in the absence of a vRS in Fabia guise what about a vRS Roomster - could fancy one in Black Magic, lowered, with 18" alloys and a torquey 2.0L PD engine:thumbup:
