I couldnt give a f*ck TBH! Im sick of hearing all the gossip about it when the truth of the matter is everyones having a complete guess!

If they bring one out they bring one out!...... if not im happy with my current furby for now, if by the time i want to change it its still not out il just buy something else, no big deal.

What i dont get is why some people love to have a dig at diesels at every chance! whats your problem?! If you dont like deisels dont buy one, but stop with the 'insults' to people who do choose to buy one!

:rant::saythat:

I do like Diesels, hence I have a mk1 Fabia vRS , but I would be put off buying a new Fabia vRS with the 1.9 in it.

to be honest mate, i've driven a 2.0 140 bhp audi a3 and i wasn't impressed with it. yes its smooth and quieter but when did hot hatch's become smooth and quiet?? i want noise and a kick in the pants :P

i'd like them to use a more powerfull version of the 1.9

either ways if its not out next year i'll either buy a new bike (poss a zx10r or similar and run this car into the ground as the difference between mine and new would be more than im willing to pay) or i'll have to look elsewhere:(

I understand everyones frustration & irritation as I too am in a similar boat... I've now been driving my 2004 Seat Ibiza Sport 5 door 1.4 16V 100HP for more than 4 years. In my favor I'll get penalized if I sell it on before 5 years with having to return some of the tax credit I managed to save when I moved here(Israel). In addition pricing on new cars here till recently carried nearly a 100% customs tax in addition to VAT & the like... Therefore a new car is quite prohibitively expensive. To get a good Idea on our pricing add VAT & registration/road tax on top of your (UK-already most pricey in the EU) on the road pricing & that should be fairly accurate for most vehicles that fall under basic transportation. Excluding any 4x4/SUV, Convertible, Luxury make & of course exotics they would cost at least double or triple...

That said I will likely wait a bit longer. Part of the reason being, I'm confident we'll see the makings of a vRS if not the actual model soon. VAG have always been tight lipped. Think how their sales forces only ever know when a new model will be out a week after it's on the showroom floor... We'll be seeing a 1.6CRD with power outputs from 85-140hp. As well as the 1.4TSI 120-170hp. Could even see the newer 1.8TfSI +/- 160hp. Not to say we couldn't see the 2.0CR 170hp currently being released. Yet they're likely to reserve this for the larger PQ35-36/46-47 platforms... As opposed to popular theory that the 2.0TDI doesn't "FIT" it does. Yet the PD class of engines are being fazed out due to tighter emissions requirements:weeping:. Time frame could be hard to gage but should be something like 1-3 years... The 1st we'll see should be the 120-125hp 1.4TfSI followed by the 1.8TfSI if we get it might only be used in the hotter versions of the Ibiza. Yes unfortunately the 1.6CRD will be the longest wait as it's not even in full production yet:(.

Was in my dealership today and you guessed it - I asked about a new Furby VRS.

I was speaking to a mechanic and he showed me one of the electronic letters from Skoda and it essentially went something along the lines of '...they (Skoda) couldn't find a configuration that was suitable at present to release a Fabia Vrs'. Not the exact words of the letter but this was the general 'gist' of it.

The mechanic then told me the reasons he thought this was, basically Skoda Furby's and other models had been p*ssing in the pocket of the Volkswagen cars by selling more and Volkswagen was getting the hump as a result.

Perhaps by restricting sales of certain vehicles the Volkswagen group think some Skoda punters might jump ship and buy a Volkswagen? Who knows? He also told me about Skoda vans (didnt know they made any?!) and a model(s) had been done away with as it was outselling VW variants. How true this is who knows...

Anyway, matey boy reckons the idea of a Vrs is not out of the question but told me not to hold my breath...

B*llox!

Was so chuffed off I went and picked up an Octavia brochure and started browsing at Octy VRS's.

The van will be the Roomster based 'Practik'....Not coming over here AFAIK........hehe

i made a similar comment yesterday re vw,all new cars were delayed and reassesed, some scrapped some been changed, they realise they have to up the stakes. agree 100% with you:thumbup:

Well if that's the case I'd like to tell VW now that it's not going to happen. I'd rather take my money to Fiat, Ford or even Vauxhall. Either that or save up a bit more and buy an Octy instead.

Come off it VAG may own the brands but they are run in isolaion, clearly they part bin share & platform share but the Polo is a £15k ish car whereas the Fabia is a £11k car two different types of buyer for the same sized car.

i heard that all skoda dealers know when the new vrs mark 2 is coming out and they cant say but i would have bet on march 2009

You know wrong then.

Who has told you that crap?

Talking about the MK2 VRS, my MK1 is three years old in May and its time for a change, I was in the dealers last week asking about the MK2 and they said it will defiantly not be coming, I’ve looked at everything I can think of to replace my VRS and the nearest I’ve come is a Audi A3 / Golf GT 140/170hp but at over £21k with the extras I want (sunroof, xenons, cruise) they are having a laugh. I even test drove the Octavia VRS diesel and was disappointed, don’t get me wrong its a nice car I was expecting a rocket ship but it fell way short of that.

There is a lot of 3+ year old VRS’s out there and I’ll bet a good few owners would chop it in for a MK2 if it was available, Skoda has blown it big style not offering a new VRS...

How about a little conspiracy theory to end on, a couple of weeks ago in Auto Express they had on the front cover the new 2009 Polo and the article inside mentioned about a new 135hp hot diesel. Now how many 130hp Polo GT’s have you seen on the road compared to VRS’s not many I’ll bet, I’ve seen none. Mr VW must have looked at the sales figures and wondered why all these VRS’s were sold instead of the premium VW brand Polo GT, I may be wide of the mark here but I’ll bet VW put the brakes on the MK2 VRS to introduce this new 135hp Polo and charge the earth for it as there will be no VW group alternative to compete it’ll maximise profit. Just a though...;)

They probably have by holding out a bit but as you say there is no real replacement out there.

Despite what the dealers say I reckon the new one will be out in the 2009 MY which if they are anything like VW with model years means any time from August onwards.

Why the rush to change? I had a 150 bhp Golf GT TDI for four years 85k miles with no issues at all, that engine is bombproof.

But if people can't afford this new Polo GT they will just look elsewhere and as it is the new Fabia isn't all that cheap anymore.

My money is on Skoda waiting for the new CR diesel engine(s) and small cc turbo petrol engine(s) that are filtering their way through VAG atm.

But if your comparing the Fabia to Golfs/A3's your not being fair, they are a size above the Fabia so they will be more expensive, you need to be looking at small cars to directly replace the Fabia VRs, things like the Fiesta ST, Punto, Corsa, Ibiza, Swift etc etc, mostly around the same price range, all better looking than the Fabia2, and all better built!

The fiesta ST 1.6 TDCI is a good alternative to the vRS cheaper too.

In all seriousness though as another person pointed out why the rush to change? Your car is only 3 years old keep it another year and there may be vRS's available then new.

Also look back to when the Mk1 Fabia was launched how long was it after launch did the vRS model appear.... and if your not convinced look at any other (non sports only model) and you will see there is a similar sort of lag, the bread & butter models are the lower priced lower specced cars and only a small % of the total sales go towards the sports model.

There is only 1 exception in recent years and thats the Leon where not far off 40% of its sales were of the Cupra/Cupra R/Cupra TDI or the FR equivalents vs the run of the mil models.

That is correct, but in many cases the manufacturer continues to supply the "hot" version of the original model at the same time as the lower specced version of the new model are introduced, so that there is not a gap.

Indeed, Skoda themselves did this with the change from Mk 1 Octy vRS to Mk II Octy vRS. Why couldn't they have done the same with the Fabia?

I suspect those are UK figures only?!?

Buying a current model Fiesta or Ibiza might not be a very good idea unless you can get a very big discount as new models are on the way for both.

How can you say so confidently that all those cars are better built than the Fabia2? Do you have direct experience of all of those cars for longer than a test drive? Can't imagine the Fiesta or Ibiza in particular being better built, the interior on both looks pretty cheap.

From my experience so far my Fabia 2 is really well made, it has that solid feel that VW lost after the Mk2 Golf.

and i doubt he has been anywhere near a swift, the build quality on them is quite aweful

The only reason I'am thinking about a change is I usually chop them in every three years and my car is knocking on the door of 40k miles I'd like to get a bit of money back before I rack up a pile of miles on it, but this time I can't find anything close to what the VRS offers i.e. good drive, bags of torque for overtaking real world 50+ mpg and its not missed a beat either. Don't get me wrong if I can't find anything I won't be selling my VRS.

As for the Ford and Seat etc, no chance, I drove the Ibiza FR before I bought the VRS not even in the same league, and the Ford (Found On Roadside Dead) enough said and I would rather get the bus than drive the French and Italian stuff...:thumbdwn:

I know the Audi A3 and Golf GT are the next step up in size but I was looking at comparable diesel performance only.

Bloody Skoda, where's my new MK2 VRS...

The Fiesta is without doubt, far superior in every way to the Fabia, the Ibiza will be made out of the same parts so will basically be the same, and certainly no worse than it's Skoda/VW brethren.

I spend quite a significant amount of time in car dealers, they let me test drive anything I want and usually give me a car of my choice as a courtesy car due to the sheer amount of work I personally generate for them, so yes, I do have a good experience of driving most cars.

Well you doubt wrong sunshine, the one I had over christmas for a week was very well put together, just as you'd expect from a japanese car, it also drove superbly and was great fun too, it's what I'd buy if I was in the market for a small size fun car.

Always makes me giggle when people make statements about cars they obviously have never been in.

The Fiesta is without doubt, far superior in every way to the Fabia,

Not that I believe everything I read in car magazines, but I don't think ever saw a single review where the Fiesta was rated higher than the Fabia, and thats old Fabia I'm talking.

Even the 1.6TDCI Fiesta falls some way short of a Fabia vRS on power and torque and given that the poster was looking for performance above all else I wouldn't have thought it was a very good reccomendation.

  • 1 year later...

2010 will see fabia hatch and estate in Vrs form poss 1.6 turbo to conform with 2011 WRC regs
