RS Drivers Seat

Featured Replies

My RS is coming up to being a year old with only 10,000 miles on and already I've noticed the drivers seat is starting to wear pretty bad (white nylon fraying), is this a common fault that anybody else has experianced and if so did you get it repaired under warranty??

A known problem - see here for how other owners fared. Its one of the perks of owning a vRS! :D

Getting sheep **** stuck to the passenger seat of your 4x4 is also a common problem.

Hi Denis:wave:

Seriously, it's got to be a warranty issue. The seams between the leather and the nylon (?) has cropped up before and I don't recall anyone having problems when this is brought up with the dealer.

Rich , you're not suggesting what I think you're suggesting are you ? You haven't got a pair of wellies have you Denis ?: :D

While in for the 20k service I pointed out that the seat cover was starting to fray again (I already had one replaced), he's going to replace it again under warranty.

What I'm worried about is what happens when next one frays and there not interested in replacing it under warranty.

Yeah I had it done at 5000 miles , the second one is still minted and now at almost 12000 miles and 21 months old. (all done under warranty with no hassle , in 1 day , while i was at work , ready for me at 330 pm) On the subject of running out of warranty , first , I dont know if i will have my car when it runs out (my record of car ownership longevity is 2 yrs 4 months...so I would have to beat my personal best!) and second , when the warranty runs out I may bang a set of Golf 4 leather recaros in there , and have her trimmed in 2 tone black and silver leather , thus removing the problem!

Talking about sheep **** - it will probably be easier to clear the stuff from these sports seats than the part-leather ones in the RS. (Yes, it's hard to see the difference with the regular Elegance seats, but they really are the RS seats with the Elegance fabric! Spot the differences: here are the regular Elegance seats and the RS seats.)

At first, I was rather miffed to find out that the sports interior I had ordered for the 4x4 would not be the RS interior but now I'm over it. It's actually the best of both worlds: the side support of the RS seats but with a more rugged and classy fabric. (That is, I hope it will be more rugged! Please say so, fellow 4x4 friends...)

The three-spoke sports steering wheel will also be slightly different from the one in the RS, while the leather gear shift will of course hold the (in)famous 4x4 logo.

I'm assuming that you are, ever so slightly, having a pop at the RS interior. In fact I do agree with you. The leather is very nice but the inserts are a bit naff, as are the light grey carpets. Everyone, this is my opinion so don't have a go:eek: . If there had been an option for dark velour throughout, especially with darker carpets, I would have given it serious consideration.

Rich , I take your point , but we then wouldn't have any need for the " How to keep your vRS carpets clean " thread and that would have deprived a lot of people of a lot of fun :D

Quite true. It would be a shame to take something away from Denis that obviously gives him so much pleasure!

Now where did you get that impression? I just love the RS interior! :D

(Seriously, the RS interior looks pretty cool in comparison with the rather senior-citizen black Onyx fabric. It's just that I don't trust its practicality, and apparently rightfully so, given the above reports. Still I hate to miss out on the leathery bits.)

You could always take her into a coachtrimmer and have a custom leather interior fitted if that is what you want , Ive seen a few cars whose owners have done this and they look great , although you do have to pay for a quality job!

If the front seats have side airbags then it is far from straightforward, and could be positively dangerous, to have the seats retrimmed in leather!

Oh yeah I forgot about those! I havent had any side airbags since i sold my Slxi !
