Falken tyres any good???

Featured Replies

As part of the on-going project that is the car, I'm thinking of putting 205/40 R17 Falken FK-451 on the furby, as they are re-enforced. I know there are better tyres, but this has to be a trade off against cost/usage. A

Andy IMO Toyos are great & only suffer when pushed hard in really cold conditions & I mean "really cold". the down side is they dont last toooooooooooooooo long I get about 12000 ish out of the fronts on the Octy but I would add that they get used hard !!

Only used falcons once on a Citroen Xantia I had about 4 years ago & yes they were "economically priced" but I found the outsides scrubbed off really easily, especially nearside (roundabouts me thinks) thought it was tracking but had it checked twic & OK.

A mates Wife (now ex) had similar experiences on a Pug 306 Diesel

In fairness that was a few years ago so things may have improved, also cant remember which Falcon it was, I think I paid

Andy iv'e had falken tyres on my cars in the past, ther'e supposed to be budget tyres. they were a bit hard compound but generally had no problems with them. they also gave a rock hard ride on my 306 when i had them on. have you got 17" wheels on at the moment? i'm in the process of dropping back down in size, the assassins of knocked three shades of **** out of mine. iv'e got some old audi TT 16" wheels in the pipe line.

if you can stop the learners from hitting the kerb with your alloys you should keep goal for England.

I found Falkens aqua planed really easily in the wet (duh!!) Go fo Michelin as they last ages and ages they tend to crack before they wear down!!!!!

i run falkens on the porsche and they grip really well in the dry.. in the wet they are not bad certainly no worse than the toyos on the octy.. i wont be using the toyos again as i find the wear rate is phenominal.. the falkens wear well - ride quality is good if you have the pressures set right...

Im getting some 16" or 17" steels off either the superb or octy. So assassins will have no alloy to knock and less tyre to kerb!!! Neat solution eh?

I have always found Michelin to have soft walls resulting in easy damage to those less careful about kerbs....and seeing as its a learner car ..I wouldnt have them.

I had Falkens on my Toledo - exceptionally quiet tyres but too hard a compound for me - car never felt planted, it felt detached from the road

Toyos are superb IMO - never had a problem wet or cold, unless you push way to hard. And dry they are awesome

Falken are not bad tyres by any means. Had them on my old 16v with 17" rims. Also ran Toyo's with 16" on the 16v too. The Toyo's gripped better in both the wet and dry, but do wear very quickly! The Falkens are a harder compound, so they do tend to be less forgiving comfort wise, but not much worse in the dry on grip. In the wet, the Toyo's are much better.

I will be going for one of these 2 tyres next I think as I can't quite afford the Pirelli Nero's!

Im getting some 16" or 17" off the superb

Superb wheels wont fit mate, they are 5 x 112 stud pattern.

Cheers mate for that it looks like the 16" of the octy then, So what size tyre 205/40 or 205/45? Would a 215/40 fit.......

On my last car I had some 17" rims shrouded with Falken (215x40s). Were fine until the MOT man pointed out from underneath when the car was in the air that the inside (i.e. facing the middle of the car) sidewalls were split to buggery and that although plenty of tread was remaining, he couldn't pass the tryes for the MOT.

Was this a one off, was this the result of poor quality Scottish roads where I use to live? Don't know, but this experience would put me off them again. I assumed it was because of their low profile nature meant that the side walls could not absorb the bumps in the road, but my current Kumho tyres have suffered no such problems.

Have Falkens on my 928 and the main thing I noticed about them was how much better they gripped than the Avons that were on there before. Not perfect in the wet but overall quite a nice tyre. However there are many Falken models - the ones on the 928 are GR451 something from memory.

Have just put two on the front of wifey's Fiesta. Too soon to tell performance (and she doesn't use much of the tyre's performance anyway) only thing I have noticed there is how quiet they are compared with the Contis that were on previously.

I've had two set of Falkens on the Focus, and now replacing them again with another set of ZE512s. Try Essex Tyres in Basildon. There prices are fantastic if you are semi-local. To give you some idea, 215/40/17 ZE512 are

i used them ... 225/45/16 good grip but noisy after 30000Km and cheap price too
