Hi, Just bought an 02 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

New to the forums, thought I'd pop in and say hi... er, hi! :)

I've just traded in my Fabia (sniff!) and bought an 02 Octavia 1.9 SDI Classic (21500 miles otc). I know it's a litlle late, horse/stable door etc, but are there any issues I need to know about with this version of the Octavia, or is it all plain sailing?

Pick 'er up on Saturday. WOOHOO!!! Ahem! ;)

Nice site btw!

Low horse power, but the engine manages a lot better than the bhp suggests. Especially good for town/city driving, but it will take the Octy to a reasonable M-way cruising speed as well.

Never owned one, but I test drove an Octy SDi at the time I bought the wifes 1.6LX. It was really only the high mileage on the car I looked at that cuased me to choose the very low mileage 1.6 instead. Also the wife does not do the mileage to make a deisel worth while for the fuel consumption.

Don't let the people here put you off because of the 68bhp, it will be fine for ordinary driving.

People may mistake you for a taxi :P

Nice to see you here BTW , Aaron

Yep, I realised that. ;) It stull shunts along quicker than my 1.9 Fabia SDI did (been on a test drive along a short stretch of dual carriageway).

Which is exactly what it's going to be used for. :)

 It has the spoiler and alloys as added by the previous owner. 99% of the Octy taxis I've seen are plain. :)
Nice to see you here BTW ' date=' Aaron[/quote']Thanks for telling me about the forums Alex. Ghod, so many groups! ;)

One Probelm with the Octavia SDI is the gear box, not the best gearbox going, very weak.

Hi DeVIL,

In what way? I still have the Manufacturers warranty 'til 2005, so hopefully if problems ocurr it won't hit my wallet. :)

Howdie

Hi, Aaron! If you have a problem with the clutch pedal sticking down in cold weather, the solution is to have a modified clutch master cylinder fitted under warranty.

welcome Aaron

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

Clutch tip noted, thanks DGW!:)

Hello!!!

Nice choice of car

Oh and welcome :wavey:

& yes you do sometimes get mistaken for a taxi. The other weekend I had quite a few people asking me if I went "sarf of the riva" in mine. Can't think why

Although be aware that all is not as it seems with that particular SDi.

If you check the very faint text in Jon's sig you will see it has a bit more power than yours.

2004 Octavia 1.9SDI a whale choking 206/368 yep' date=' that's imperial not ya metric malarky![/quote']

Ummm? Not sure exactly what that means, I'm a total n00b when it comes to anything beyond the size of the engine.

Just random numbers Aaron, just random numbers. I think they refer to airport trips as a fraction of total fares carried ;) Or they could be the BHP and LB/FT figures. I can never remember which :D

That is indeed whale choking for a 1.9 SDI... (btw, how!? )
