Which dogbone mount?

Featured Replies

I've got my car booked in with Blueflame to have my blowing exhaust flexi pipe repaired in a few weeks.

I've read some interesting posts on here about uprating the dogbone mount to reduce the amount of vibration/flex that the exhaust flexi has to put up with, but is it the front or rear bush that I need?

Is fitting easyish/DIY?

Front

Si, I had both the back bushes (there are two at the back) in the dogmount replaced with Powerflex, also the inner and outer wishbones ones done, really does make a difference.

You get a bit more vibration to start with with, but that settles down, and the dogmount really sharpens up the gear change, and stops the front wheels hopping about so much.

The dogmount is an easy DIY, but the inner and outer wishbone ones were a git to watch someone else do............LOL

Si,

The rear two bushes on the dog-bone are well worth replacing, a very simple job too, took me less than 20mins from start to finish.

With regard the front dog-bone bush this is a real pig to fit. The compression force required to squeeze it in place is immense.

For what it’s worth I’d stick with just replacing the two rear bushes.

Steve

the movement in the front part of the dogbone is small compared with the main 2-piece in the back of it, IMO just replace the main back one, it will make a load of difference.

Cheers Gerry/Trevor, I've got the SuperPro wishbone bushes already, had them done before Christmas along with some new top mounts.

Cheers Steve, I guess I'll get the garage to do it then ;)

I've got the car booked in with Awesome GTi in a fortnight for a service so have asked them to fit the dogbone mount whilst it's in

You got pm

Forge Motorsport

this one for me. a helpful neigbour with a weight problem helped me get the buggers in.not that bad tbh with a spare pair of hands.

and does reduce wheel hop.

I've just spoken to PipeWerx - Performance Exhaust Specialist who also suggested an uprated dog bone mount bush would be better for the flexi pipe.

Car now booked in for exhaust at Pipewerx (instead of Blueflame) and the dogbone at Awesome ;)
