What is the best way/product to clean interior windscreen

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have tried a few ways of cleaning my interior windscreen, but I still have some sort of residue on it, like a haze/gunge

I just want to get to plain see through glass,

At the moment it looks like someone has treated the screen, and I have patches of clear/dirty

Is Autoglym fast glass any use?

Or can you recommend anything

National aka Jimbo

fast glass is really good, but I always have a problem with the inside of the windscreen. I can't get a constant pressure on it due to the angle, so it always leaves smears :(

I use Megs NXT glass cleaner. Good stuff although you have to be quick if it's hot.

Not a problem this time of year then Jon :)

I will have to give this a go due to having residue on the glass after washing

with Megs shampoo :(

Use a weak solution of warm water and white vinegar to dampen a cotton or linen rag. Dry off / polish with a dry cotton or linen rag or crumpled up newspaper.

Autoglym Fast Glass is good, but as detailed above you have to be persistent with it to achieve a good finish. :)

Would recommend giving it a go though a bit of elbow grease never hurt anyone

it is good, but can leave a residue on the screen

autoglym mate, also stops misting up to a degree too.

Found myself looking at a three-in-one Rainex kit in Costco yesterday Rainex treatment + Rainex Foam cleaner + Rainex anti-mist wipes.

I've got Autogylm etc etc etc, but I am a lazy sod so I just end up using the side of my hand on my side (not smart!) but passengers don't know how I can see to drive.

One of the problems is the danger of getting anything strong enough to clean the windows on to the dashboard (another excuse) and its better doing this job in the summer (saves the window misting up with sweat!). I've even got some Trico stuff (like chalk). The old water + vinegar > newspaper method is as old as the hills (does not make it wrong though!). I used to have a very good one - it was that good that my wife used it all on the house windows (not Windowlene).

I find using a (distilled) water spray and a microfibre cloth gives a good finish :)

Mer polish? Brilliant for mirrors and glass, not for windscreens though.

Found a couple of products to be a lot better than most popular ones:

Autoglym (Trade) Glass Cleaner - cream. A good one to buy if there are a few of you as it comes in a 5 litre container and you can share it out. Actually works out cheaper than Fast Glass. Ebay can be a good source for it.

Croftgate Glass Cleaner - spray

Einzett Glass Polish - cream. This is good for really heavy contamination.

i just get a bowl with warm water in with a drop of fairy liquid. apply with a bit of kitchen roll then dry with more kitchen roll. then i just polish it for a bit with a tea towel - always gives me perfect results :)

No, I've just remembered that it was marketed by Nilfisk - or some name very close to that - I haven't seen it for years though!

I use computer screen cleaning wipes from work. Seem to work ok.

If you can afford £20 a little steam cleaner with a hose and squeegee is perfect.

A strongish (10:1 water:product) solution of stardrops (67p in sainsbury last i looked) works wonders too when sprayed on and wiped off with kitchen roll or an MF.

Thanks everyone for the replies

I will give "them" a go at the weekend when I am off again

I used that today on my somewhat smeared up windscreen and it worked a treat. Thanks for the tip.
