My octavia accident !

Featured Replies

My 3 months old octavia met with an accident yesterday . My wife was driving .

Thankfully she is unhurt but still in a state of shock . She does not remeber what exactly happened but what she has told me is that the car was doing 100 mph and suddenly something(she is not able to recollect what it was) came in front of the car and she was forced to take a sharp turn and the car went out of control, took 1 full round circle and went over the divider ... Thank god there was no car behind her ...

There seem to be huge underbody damage . The exterior body ,engine ,gearbox ,chassis etc is absolutly fine but i fear that there could be some damage to other parts as well since the impact was huge ...

The car is there at the dealer and he gave me an estimate today of the parts that are to be replaced ...

1) Rear axle

2) knukle

3) (3) alloy rims

4) (3) tyres

5) Bearing

6) Suspension Arm

7) (3) Shockers

8) Rear housing

9) Cont. Arm

10) Tierod end

These are some of the parts that can be clearly seen as damaged .

Now i am in two minds whether to keep this car or buy a new one .. I am not quite sure that the car would come in the same shape once the parts are replaced although the dealer claims it will but i 've my doubts ...

What do you guys suggest ? should i keep it or buy a new one ? The reason i am asking this is cos i dont want to be in a situation where the car is repaired, work good for sometime and then start giving problems ...

What do you guys say ,will the car be as good as it was before ?

Thanks .

100 MPH?? Tut,tut,tut:thumbdwn:

The car should be fine once repaired.

Surely you mean 70mph or 100km/h ? x mph must be a typo

Unless of course you live in Germany.

As long as the body/chassis didn't take a large whack you should be fine, mechanical parts are easy to replace in their entirety and as they don't need pulling or reshaping you shouldn't see any difference in the car.

Harsh accident, but at that speed if something came in front of me that quick, I would just hang on to the steering wheel and just smack into it head-on. Less risk of a spin as shown above.

Once the car is repaired (and the list sounds fairly comprehensive) it should be fine.

Did I read right it went over the central reservation into the other carriageway?!

hope the local police aren't reading this, you could incriminate your mrs.

Pleased she is ok though :-)

Agreed. Some members here are from our local boys in blue.

eeek, hope she's ok. I second some of the comments on here.

But at the end of they day... at least she walked away ok.

Sorry to hear that. Glad your wife is ok.

I think the OP is ok, they appear to be based in India.

Fair do's

You can't be too careful with the ol' interweb can you.

Give the guy a break, it wasn't him driving !!!!!

All he's done is come on here and ask advice about the damage sustained to his car, not to recieve a lecture on someone else's speed or driving ability

Nothing wrong with pointing out that he or she may be incriminating themselves or others by suggesting someone was driving at 100mph.

Hi

Glad your wife is OK, car looked after her it seems.

You haven't stated how you will be paying for the repairs, insurance or cash?

I had to have a replacement axle on my mk1 vRS after reversing into a concrete post. I also needed one alloy wheel & a very small scuff on the bumer repainted. Price for that little lot?..........the best part of two grand.

I shudder to think what your list of parts will add up to. Hope its a bit cheaper in India.

Glad the wifes OK.

If money is no problem for you, I would get a new one. If like me I would have to make a claim on my car insurance I would have little choice but to put my faith in my local dealer/repairer. So the choice is yours. I am sure it will go together properly. Why not have it repaired and if you are still not happy sell it and get a new one.

Glad your wife is OK, I am sure my wife would have told me a slightly different story........

What even with out knowing the full facts..... If he'd have stated "My wife was doing about 100mph down the M6", then the "Briskoda Do-Good Police" would have had a valid point

FWIW it's a lot cheaper in India.

Also isn't the Octavia the MK I and the MK II The Laura in India?

Maybe it would help others in the future especially from the UK not to post about speeds they may have carried out on the UK's roads.

You wouldnt catch me breaking the speed limit!!!

I can't ever remember the police getting a successful prosecution based on comments made by someone on a forum...

Anyway, if I'd had an accident whilst doing 100mph and lived to tell the tale I'd be happy enough with the car that it kept me alive and sod what it was like after it was repaired!

anyone can say they are doing any speed i did 170 today

problem is knowing the way this police state is going they will probs make it against the law to say you where doing a speed !!!

But still OK to post how they 'raced' a Furby VRS against a Mondy ST and got whooped?

Will my VRS do more than 70mph?

I know the speedo is marked much higher..........
