help me choose..L&K or Elegance with extras?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have just had to address the same predicament. I presently have a 05 octy2 2.0 tdi Elegance estate in island green, specced it up with 17" Pegasus alloys/sports suspension, front sensors , heated seats, towbar , esp , Audience etc, but NOT LEATHER!!, It was a big mistake cause the black fabric seats have resisted cleaning and stain very easily with a wet jacket or such like. I love the roadholding of the sports suspension but on trying an L&K there seems not a lot of difference.

I have just ordered a 2.0 tdi L&K ,again island green, (takes a nice shine and doesn't look too bad when dirty).. With Columbus, TPM, front sensors, privacy glass and towbar.

Pricing the elegance with all the "goodies " on the L&K works out cheaper to buy the L&K although I asked for the black Alcantara opposed to the light leather I am also a bit in the dark about the material. It must be something else if they can charge the same price for part synthetic seats as full leather seats. Brochures are unclear to say the least.

All info on Alcantara greatly appreciated..

How about adding DSG madfiddler?

Go on, you know you want too..... (although I suspect being a company car the extra co2 doo-dar will push up the monthly cost to you) so I'm only jesting.

DSG? I've never really liked autos...feels like cheating! I prefer to be in control with manual....although isn't this the "flappy paddle" thing?...

All info on Alcantara greatly appreciated..

the piece behind your back and the piece you sit on is alcantara

I found some pictures on the forum in the last day or so whilst looking bu now I can;t find them again :(

...if you spot them please post a link!

Thanks for that.

I will look for the pictures. I tried the DSG box last week.

Budget was too tight but I was tempted. Maybe next time.....

Magic, Thanks. They look like they wont be as "slippy as full leather.

Forgot to mention I will miss the Pegasus wheels since they are great to keep clean since you can get the sponge between the spokes.

nice runboy! That settles it for me then....black, black and more black it is!

How are you getting on with DSG? What's the fuel economy like compared to manual?

Cheers

The outside looks nice when it's clean...not so sure about it with a few days of muck and grime but overall it is a nice colour. Well worth the time to clean it and satisfying when you step back. I've got a few Autoglym products in the garage ready to try out when I wash her next.

DSG.....well I've never had a manual Octy, my last car was a 2l petrol Avensis auto and consumption on that was not good. Coming into the Octy I have an auto and diesel so fuel consumption is better, power is better and it is still a auto box so town driving is lovely. I'm probably getting late 400 to the tank, into 500 miles on a run but I do drive briskly - you can't help but love the torque once you are on the move and the DSG keeps it in that ideal power band so the speed just builds up.

From memory I don't think the DSG sapped to much MPG over a manual but the brochure will tell.

incidentally the DSG would cost me about another £50 a month! ouch...

Blimey - £50 pm! Suppose the initial cost and higher co2 is to blame - probably not worth £50 pm then but no harm in you trying it out on a demo - just don't fall in love!

actually doubt I will do a demo...I already have a mk1 and have had various mk2 octavias as hire cars....just a matter of me sorting out the details and specs, and then I have to wait forever for our HR dept to get there act together and do all the admin!...ho-hum....shoudl be worth the wait in the end though

I got an L&K estate in Anthracite Grey with the darker Alcantara and I think it looks great!

Just over 1k miles on the clock now, extended run coming up this weekend (approx. 600 miles).

Love the toys, love the finish - great car.

Got the 2.0 Diesel with DSG box.. wonderful!

Do I like my Skoda? You bet!

I'm glad someone else likes the island green:thumbup:. Just moved from a Superb to a 55 plate elegence estate, and I originally thought I must have sports suspension as the handling was so good. Now been reliably informed that it's "normal"

I've put some covers on the seats as they looked easy to mark

Got a new 2.0L 140 BHB L&K diesel with DSG last October and it's marvellous. Done over 3k now and the engine's loosening up nicely. Used about quarter of a litre of oil on variable servicing so far which doesn't seem bad and averages 50 mpg on journeys of 20 miles or more.

Beware leather - In winter you NEED the heated seats, in summer when the car is parked in the sun the leather can be so hot you can't sit on it.

I am moving from a Honda Accord Exec (leather 2.2 TD estate) to an Octavia Elegance (1.9TD hatch) and wanted to avoid the leather.

In the week I had the demonstrator we had some frosts and I did not miss the heated seats.

Good point, I thought that heated seats are standard on the L& K?, Possibly the Alcantara material might lessen the summer problem.

Re leather

We have got a Mk 1 Octy L&K with the light tan leather, A Superb Elegance with Black leather & the 4x4 has got Golt Recarro Black leather fitted

The black def looks better but the lighter colour just dosent show the dust & dirt, Also dosent get hot in the summer. Weve now done I guess about 250,000 miles in these cars & I would never go back to fabric out of choice. With many marks you can just wipe them off & give the leather a good treatment once a year & its perfect

Next time I spec a car it will be a light leather with heated seats.

Re the 1/2 leather/fabric, it just looks a bit like you cant afford full leather although I can see its merits but leather for me every time ;);)

My new L&K with the alcantara has both front seats heated. Work quickly and get nice and warm.

In the summer if its really hot you can use the remote window opening just before you get in to lessen the heat a bit.

I never had a problem with hot seats in the summer as the light colour obviously reflects more heat than the black stuff.

I would actuallky love full onyx (black) leather...but you can;t get it as an option on the new l&k

the only options are

- light (full) leather

- alcantara (which is actually black leather sides, back and head rests with the alcantara in the middle section behind your back and backside!)

both options are inclusive in the L&K price

  • 1 month later...

Because The L&K only had a 2.0tdi and no 1.9tdi, and because im young and only have one NCB, im going for the elegance 1.9Tdi with black magic and luxury pack (multi-function steering wheel, maxidot, leather seats in black onyx, heated, electric memory seats and 16" syrius alloys). Apart from the bigger engine, dont think the l&k is much different and not worth the extra cost. not for fancy alloys, piano varnish interior, xenons and "Laurin and Klement" written on every piece of trim there is. plus insurance, maintenance costs and fuel economy are not as good as that of the elegance
